The much-anticipated fifth Helluva Boss short premiered, and fans are going wild! It features the beloved duo of Blitzø and Loona on a mission together. And their target turns out to be a surprise to them and the viewers. Unlike most shorts, which are comedic, this one centers around parental love. It also contains a decent amount of references related to iconic shows and characters. Care to find out which ones you can encounter throughout this miniature episode?
Helluva Boss Brings Love and Laughter
Titled Mission: Orphan Time, this Helluva Boss short opens with Blitzø and Loona. They’re hunting on Earth for Mr. Wrigglers, a beloved local children’s entertainer. The pair finds him, discovering he’s as kind and generous as his public image portrays. Loona, charmed by his kindness, grants Wrigglers a final request before he dies. They spent the entire day saying goodbye to the entertainer’s many children. In the end, Mr. Wrigglers dies horrifyingly after seeing Loona’s hellhound form.
A Couple of Fun References
Despite being around five minutes long, the Helluva Boss short possesses connections to other franchises. The most obvious is Mr. Wiggler’s being a parody of the Simpsons character Ned Flanders. They’re both kind and generous, mustached men wearing green sweaters, except Wrigglers isn’t overly religious. Another small tidbit is that both characters are deceptively older than they appear to be. Wrigglers is also a mashup of children’s entertainers Mr. Rogers and Steve from Blue’s Clues.
Another reference found in this short is the ‘pocket sand’ meme. It stems from the King of the Hill character Dale Gribble throwing sand from his pocket. Mr. Wrigglers pulls the same thing in an attempt to escape from death. Additionally, Loona acknowledges and references the meme, indicating that the show exists within the Hellaverse.
Final Thoughts
This newest Helluva Boss from Vivziepop is one of the best so far. It makes you think it’s going one way, but then it goes in the other. And while not as comedic as its predecessors, it delivers some tender moments. The ‘pocket sand’ joke was my definite favorite since I enjoy King of the Hill. It’s a moment that my friends and I adore and quote often. Maybe we’ll see more gags like that in a future Helluva Boss episode or short.
