Helluva Boss, and its predecessor Hazbin Hotel, have both taken the internet by storm. Both started out as independent animation productions by Vivienne Medrano (VivziePop) and were initially released on YouTube. Now, after lengthy negotiations, both have been acquired by Prime Video. With this avenue for funding now available to them, the already star-studded cast is ripe for a few more gems. While there are many characters who still need voices, Leviathan, the Sin of Envy, comes to mind as one, or two, as the case may be, whose casting is abundantly clear in Helluva Boss. Jodi Benson and Halle Bailey, the actresses who played both versions of Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
Jodi Benson and Halle Bailey, A Brief Bio
Jodi Benson’s career has spanned over 40 years. She made her debut in the 1983 musical Marilyn: An American Fable directed by Kenny Ortega. Besides her iconic portrayal of Ariel in Disney’s animated version of The Little Mermaid, Jodi also lent her voice to other notable roles, including Thumbelina (from Don Bluth’s Thumbelina), Weebo (from Disney’s Flubber), and Barbie (from the Disney Toy Story franchise).
Halle, by comparison, has only been active for 22 years, having started acting at the age of 3. Her first major role was in the TV show, where she played Skyler Forster. Even before this, however, she had gained significant popularity from her YouTube channel, where she and her sister, Chloe, performed covers of pop songs.
Who Is Leviathan in Helluva Boss
Leviathan is one of the seven Deadly Sins in Helluva Boss. She rules over the Envy Ring, which seems to be water-themed and populated by fish demons. As is the case with all of the Sins, Leviathan holds considerable power, both political and magical. However, she is, perhaps, the most unexplored of the bunch.
Five of the other seven sins have been given some level of screen time, as well as a voice. Though they have been seen, neither Leviathan nor Belphegor (the Sin of Sloth) has said a word. As such, her personality and vocalization are completely open for exploration.
Vivziepop, Let Them Be Part of Your World
Now, clearly, if Leviathan has already been cast, this entire article is moot. That being said, as seen by her initial appearance in the episode Mastermind, Leviathan has two heads, each of which seems to have its own personality. As such, the possibility for her to have 2 different voices exists.
Both Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel have a history of casting well-known actors and actresses from Broadway or the music industry in general. Jeremy Jordan, Patrick Page, Ke$ha, James Monroe Iglehart, Alex Brightman, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Stephanie Beatriz, Sarah Stiles, and Patina Miller all spring to mind. It would not be out of the question, therefore, for both Jodi and Halle to be cast.
In terms of what this would mean for the character and the fandom, the connection between the fish-like Leviathan and the mermaid Ariel would be highly amusing in Helluva Boss. Furthermore, since both actresses are brilliant singers, any song they could sing together would most likely be extremely well-received. The self-harmonizing alone would send most fans. And a quarreling song would probably, considering the Hellverse’s penchant for banger tunes, break every record on Spotify.
