J.K. Rowling comments on first episodes of Harry Potter series: ‘So, so, so good!’

Harry Potter series on HBO Max in 2026

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ve undoubtedly enjoyed the books and/or the movies. The harrowing story of the young wizard also likely lives rent-free in your head. And you can re-experience the magical tale once more in the upcoming HBO remake series. This adaptation is confirmed to be a more accurate retelling of J.K. Rowling’s books. Speaking of Rowling, she recently looked over the scripts for the first two episodes of Season One. Would you like to know what she has to say about them?

The Upcoming Harry Potter Series

As previously mentioned, HBO’s Harry Potter will recount the award-winning fable of Rowling’s iconic protagonist. The main difference is that it’ll be a seven-season program instead of eight theatrical films. Each season will cover a book, giving us a more faithful reenactment like never before. This revelation means we’ll get scenes and characters omitted from the movies by Warner Bros.

The cast will consist of actors not featured in the flicks, as mentioned earlier. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout shall portray the Harry Potter Trio along with other talented actors such as John Lithgow, Nick Frost, and Lox Pratt.

J.K. Rowling’s First Impressions

Alongside the actors are a talented team of creative minds, including Rowling herself. Instead of being a writer, she’s working as an executive producer for Harry Potter. She shares the title and role with Succession alumni Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod. According to Rowling, she’s worked alongside the HBO show’s talented writing team. She even had the privilege of reading the first two episodes.

Rowling posted her impression of the installments on her Twitter/X account. Her exact words about them were, ” . . . they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!” If the original author is impressed, then you know we’re in for a good time. But we won’t know for sure until the series premieres next year.

Final Thoughts

I see J.K. Rowling’s praise of the first Harry Potter episodes as a good sign. It gives me hope that the show could be better than the movies. However, part of me is reluctant to believe her, considering her anti-trans opinions. But the other part still really loves the world and characters she created. This incident seems like a time when I must separate the creator from the creation. Hopefully, other Harry Potter fans can, too, once the show arrives sometime in 2026.
