The fifth season of Harley Quinn featured many memorable and mind-blowing moments. We’ve met fan-favorite characters, explored origins, and had our emotions played. The penultimate episode is no different as it builds up to the finale. Harley and Ivy attempt to save Metropolis by bringing along an unlikely ally. At the same time, the city and its citizens are under threat of annihilation. Will this risky plan stop Lena Luthor or make things worse for everyone?
Newest Harley Quinn Contains Bottled Chaos
The newest Harley Quinn episode, Bottle Episode, opens with Lena shrinking and bottling Metropolis. She gloats over Brainiac’s failure before switching her attention to her brother, Lex. Unable to locate him in prison, Lena orders the drones to search the shrunken city. The next scene continues the events of last week’s episode with Harley, Ivy, and Sharon. Harley goes into a rage upon seeing Lena succeed in her plans. She calms down, and then the trio brainstorms about how to board the skull-shaped ship.
Meanwhile, in Metropolis, Bruce Wayne and Joker team up to fight Lena’s rampaging drones. Bruce even manages to rescue Lois Lane from being blasted into smithereens. They race to WayneTech Tower for supplies they could use to help save the city. Harley, Ivy, and Sharon enter the Batcave due to Harley’s time with the Bat Family. She contacts Bruce, who creates the plan to override the skull ship’s cloaking. Harley’s team will infiltrate the ship and get Lex to stop his sister.
The plan succeeds, and Lex confronts Lena but fails to talk her down. This development leads to a therapy session between the two siblings, who reconcile. Lex and Lena shrink Harley, Ivy, and Sharon and seal them in a bottle. Again, in Metropolis, Bruce’s device knocks out communications, including Lois’s emergency line to Superman. She takes her companions to the Daily Planet, where she reveals a Morse code machine. Lois uses it to send Superman a call for help that echoes through the stars.
Sibling Rivalry Grants Insight Into Lex
The recent Harley Quinn Season Five episodes revealed Lena’s rivalry with her older brother. Bottle Episode unveils it began when Lex wouldn’t share his childhood toys with her. He also berated and lorded over Lena, making her feel like a lesser being. Present-day Lex admits he mistreated her because he resented her likeability and charm. He continues by saying Lena effortlessly draws people in while he must force respect. To make himself feel better, he dragged her down and kept her at arm’s length.
Lex’s previous behavior toward Lena was despicable, yet it sheds light on his character. He has issues with being overshadowed and a desperate need for adoration. This revelation could explain why hating and destroying Superman is his ultimate goal. Lex cannot stand everyone liking the superhero more than himself, so he wants him gone. He did the same thing to Ivy after she upstaged him in the previous season. Superman’s weaknesses are kryptonite and zero sunlight, but Lex’s flaw is his insecurities.
Final Verdict
After watching this Harley Quinn episode multiple times, I give it another perfect 10. This newest installment doesn’t hit any prominent negative marks for me. The attention-grabbing action, humorous quips from characters, and thought-provoking, touching moments entertained me. My only nitpick is that the showrunners didn’t use different actors for the younger Luthors. But it doesn’t hurt the episode, so there wasn’t any point for a score deduction. The Harley Quinn season finale is gearing up, and I’ll be there to review it.
