1 Huge Green Lantern Almost Appeared in Synder Cut of Justice League

Tomar-Re a Green Lantern

A Green Lantern almost appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and there is some artwork available showing what he could have looked like. Jerad S. Marantz revealed the design on Instagram, giving fans a picture of what could have been. The movie was released on HBO Max in 2021, which gave fans a bigger picture of Snyder’s original plans for the now-defunct DCEU.

Tomar-Re was initially supposed to be in Snyder’s cut of the movie, but was left out of the final version of the film. In a post shared online,  Marantz said, “Tomar-Re! One of my favorite Green Lanterns. One of my absolute favorites. Almost forgot about this guy. I got the chance to do a pass on the character for Justice League a while back.”

He then explained that the character didn’t make it into the final cut of the film, although fans recall seeing the body of Kilowog in a Knightmare sequence of the Snyder Cut. “He was unfortunately cut from the film, but we did get to see a deceased Kilowog in the Snydercut. Working on Justice League was an incredible experience with Costume Designer @michaelwilkinson!”

For Marantz, the project was a significant milestone in his career as he added, “He is easily one of the best in the industry. Justice League was definitely a career highlight. I was able to work on some of my absolute favorite DC characters, and I was able to work with some of the industry’s best artists from Los Angeles and the UK!” Synder had plans for the Green Lantern in his DC vision, but it never came to fruition.

Tomar-Re is of the Green Lantern Corps in the DC Universe, and he is of the Xudarians, a bird-like alien race. Writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane created the character in 1961 and debuted in Green Lantern #6. The character had a tiny role in the 2011 Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds, where Geoffrey Rush voiced the role. Tomar-Re was even in a version of the post-credits scene of the Snyder Cut, but that version was not in the final cut of the movie.

Final Thoughts

The concept art gives fans a look at what could have been had the character appeared in the movie. There were many things that went wrong in the Synderverse. Fans have since protested online for Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe to hit the big screens, and it was effective in getting out Zack Snyder’s Justice League. James Gunn and Peter Safran have since taken over the reins of the DC Universe.
