Glorilla Prepares To Release Debut Album

Billboard Hot 100, GloRilla

On Friday, Sept. 11, the wait is over for Glorious, the debut album from Memphis rapper GloRilla. Her team has been working hard to build up hype for her first official studio album. Her first single from the new album, “TGIF,” recently took the number one position on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart on Sept. 21. GloRilla has also used her social media to build hype with short clips of her new song, “Hollon” before dropping the full video Oct. 4. Glorious is out Oct. 11.

Two Years In The Making

GloRilla’s Glorious is being billed as her debut album. However, it is not the first release from the Grammy-nominated rapper. She released a 2022 EP titled Anyways, Life’s Great. Earlier this year, GloRilla also dropped a mixtape, Ehhthang, Ehhthang. According to a Sept. 20 article by Stereogum, there was not much information on what to expect from GloRilla’s Glorious other than its release date.

The album will feature 15 tracks, including the song “TGIF.” This hard-hitting banger was released, and it hit hard. The song was even featured in a reel from Rihanna. Playfully, the songstress told her partner, A$AP Rocky, what time it was just as she sang the GloRilla intro. Billboard reported that GloRilla was thrilled by the clip.

Everybody “Hollon”

In a report from New Wave Magazine, the hype has been building the hype for the new album for weeks by releasing snippets of the second single, “Hollon.” The article explained that the marketing strategy had fans eager for more.  The buzz for “Hollon” grew until GloRilla finally released the song in its entirety.

The video on GloRilla’s YouTube channel proved the artist was coming in hot with her second single. An elderly woman is waiting for the city bus, reading a copy of the fictional newspaper with the headline “GloRilla’s ‘Hol’ On’ Breaks The Internet.” GloRilla is then shown pulling up behind the wheel of the bus, driving wild, and spitting her hard-hitting song.

Bus Action

The comment section of the “Hollon” section was filled with praises for GloRilla. One commenter praised Glo for her authentic Memphis sound. Multiple other comments said the video was fun, reminding them of a video by Ludacris or Missy Elliott. The video, directed by Troy Roscoe, showcased Glo’s sense of humor. As a first-time viewer of GloRilla, this reporter had to watch “TGIF,” also.

In “TGIF,” GloRilla was also on a bus. However, the featured bus in the video was not a city bus but a fully loaded tour bus. This video featured the tour bus with ladies dancing on the roof and in the cabin. We see Glo and her squad acting up on ATVs, backstage, and on the bus. The most interesting part is when she takes off her wig and starts spinning it around while standing on the kitchen table on the bus. It seemed off-script, which was fun.

Final Thoughts

GloRilla has set her first album up to be a commercial success. With “TGIF’s” mega song of the summer energy, “Hollon” delivered a big win to get fans excited to hear what else is featured on Glorious. “TGIF” has 50 million views. It is currently YouTube’s #10 top music video. Respectively, “Hollon” has earned over 1.6 million views and is #5 on Trending for music since dropping on Oct. 4.
