Glen Powell Leads Edgar Wright’s ‘The Running Man’ Remake in New Trailer

Glen Powell

Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards in Edgar Wright’s new trailer for ‘The Running Man’ remake, adapted from Stephen King’s novel. The original movie starred action star Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Richards’ role, playing an escaped convict who must survive a deadly game show. This will be the 2nd adaptation of the novel with the same name, supposedly going to be more faithful to the original story, and will be more of a modern future rather than the over-the-top future we got in the OG film.

The film follows Bed Richards (Powell), a down-on-his-luck father with a sick daughter who can’t find work, due to him being black listed. He decides to enter the Running Man game show, where he must survive 30 days without being killed by anyone to win. The movie is being directed by Edgar Wright, who produced films like Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Co-starring with Glen Powell are Josh Brolin, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Sean Hayes, Jayme Lawson, and Coleman Domingo.

A Sci-Fi Classic Reimagined

This movie looks like it’s going to be fun, and if you’ve ever since Wright’s past work, you already know the tone he brings to a movie. It does have to live up to the title of the previous movie. The last time one of Schwarzenegger’s sci-fi films was remade was ‘Total Recall’, and that was met with mixed reactions, leaving out a lot of the things that made us love that 80s film. So this movie is already a gamble, but I think with the combination of the director and the cast, it’s in good hands for everyone to enjoy.

Survival Never Looked Faster

The look of the film is amazing and modern at the same time. It honestly looks close to what we have now in our world. It also looks way more intense than its predecessor. Both Wright and Powell have stated that the movie will be closer to Stephan King’s original 1982 novel rather than the 1987 film. This will make the film seem more grounded in reality rather than over the top, with a world looking bleak and faithful.

If you need a movie to add to your list of 2025 films, this one is definitely one you want to add to that list. This is set to be released, November 7th, just in time for the fall movie season.
