Lots of celebrities have rescue pets, and Gerard Butler is no exception. Rescue pets are some of the best kind to have, as they’re almost always so thankful they’ve been rescued. They know! Besides the benefits of adopting a dog or cat from a shelter, rescue organization, or from a difficult situation, it also frees up space within a shelter or rescue for a new potential pet to be saved.
Gerard Butler and Shushka
The burly and charming Scottish actor Gerard Butler has had a diverse range of roles. He’s been known for playing Attila in Attila the Hun, King Leonidas in 300, and most recently Stoick in How to Train Your Dragon. While filming Hunter Killer in 2017, part of the location shoot took place in Bulgaria. During this time, he found a stray dog in the Bulgarian mountains.
Gerard Butler (also known as Gerry) is recognized for his kindness to both people and dogs. When he found the stray dog towards the base of the mountain, he knew he had to help. The dog was hungry and ill. He immediately wanted to assist her and felt a deep kinship with the canine.
Soon, Gerard was on his way back home with a dog in tow! He named the dog Shushka, after the Bulgarian greeting phrase “Shuska,” which means “hey there.” Since then, it’s been history with Gerard occasionally posting pictures of Shushka on his social media pages. Shushka is now about eight years old and living a comfortable life.
Gerard Butler and Shushka Are Like Hiccup and Toothless
In How to Train Your Dragon, the main character, Hiccup, finds a stray dragon who has been hurt. Hiccup helps the dragon out and ultimately names him Toothless. There are many parallels between the two stories. Gerard says he’s been much inspired by the bond and story of Hiccup and Toothless.
Conclusion
Gerard stated that having Shushka helped him understand a dog’s language. She inspired him to become a better person. Like Hiccup’s journey with Toothless, Shushka helped Gerry open his heart. Back in May, he posted a little about her on his Instagram page: “Eight years ago in Bulgaria, I came home with more than just a movie – I got Shushka,” he said. She’s still the real star. We think this super cute brown and black beauty has Gerard wrapped around her finger… or her paw! Keep the pup pictures coming, Gerry.
