Classic Platformer Rayman 1 is Getting a Remake According to Series Creator

For all my retro gamers out there, some exciting news comes from Rayman creator Michael Ancel, who has confirmed the rumors of an upcoming Rayman remake to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series’ creation. This platformer series has become an iconic franchise with a huge fanbase, so it isn’t a shocker that Ubisoft would be doing something for the game’s anniversary. Here’s all we know about the remake, and what Rayman creator Michael Acel has confirmed so far.

Rayman 1 Remake Confirmed

According to a new Retro Gamer article featuring Michael Ancel, Rayman 1 is getting a Remake to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series’ creation. For a while, the rumor mill had been swirling about the first game getting remade. This caused quite a stir, especially after the 30th Anniversary Edition of Rayman received an age rating. Following this, Ancel made some comments about a new project for the series.

Ubisoft has just confirmed that a new game is in development, and there are even rumours that more than one project is in the works. Ancel has been confirmed to be involved in the new projects currently in development; however, it is not certain which ones and to what capacity he is involved. This new game in development is apparently going to be a remake of the original game, and here’s what Ancel had to say about the remake:

“I think there’s a kind of remake planned. I don’t remember when specifically, but it will be in HD and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and things like that just to make it a bit less frustrating. I think it’s a nice move, because that’s the only point that could be a problem for non-skilled players. But yeah, I think it’s still a very nice game.”

The original platformer game launched in 1995, and Ubisoft celebrated its 30th anniversary last September with the 30th anniversary edition of the game. It was followed by rumors about the remake, especially after Ubisoft promised it was working on the future of the series. The official Rayman X account has been really quiet, especially since the last game in the main storyline series, Rayman: Legends, was released in 2013; however, Ubisoft posted its first post in 4 years last September.

Here’s what they posted on their X account:

“Rayman turns 30! Join us on our official channels to celebrate an incredible legacy,”

“a very talented team at Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are currently working together on the future of Rayman.”

“Don’t expect news from us too soon, but rest assured, Rayman is in good hands.”

Since then, Ubisoft has kept fans updated on little things about the development of new games for the series, like the remake of the first game. It’ll be exciting to see the original game with updated visuals and added game mechanics to make the game a little bit easier for players. Ubisoft has put a strong emphasis on making sure fans know that the series is part of the company’s plans, including it with other notable titles like the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remaster and Beyond Good and Evil.

Rayman is a classic platformer game by Ubisoft, and it has just celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, though the celebration is not yet over. It’s been confirmed by the creator of the game, Michael Ancel, that a Rayman Remake of the original game is in the works, and he is involved in its development. We should be getting more updates on the remake, as well as future projects of the series, soon.
