Another Inflation? CPU Prices Could Spike for the 3rd Time this Year
The gaming industry has been hit so hard by the rising cost of hardware, such as CPU prices and computer and console parts, over the last year. From rising costs of memory chips or RAM to Sony raising the base prices of all PS5 consoles, it’s become increasingly difficult to buy, sell, and produce any kind of hardware. The messed-up part is that there are so many different factors that have caused such a development to happen, and it’s happening everywhere in the global market.
Moreover, it doesn’t seem like this is going to stop anytime soon, as Intel, one of the largest technological manufacturing companies in the world, has announced yet another increase in CPU prices, which would be the third one just this year. Here’s what Intel announced earlier this week and how this will affect the gaming industry in the near future.
Intel Reports 3rd CPU Price Increase in 2026

Earlier this week, Chinese market research firm Minutes Logic Society reported Intel’s recent announcement of another increase in CPU prices happening in the next couple of months. Intel made a previous CPU price increase in both February and March of this year. In February, Intel’s increase in CPU prices ranged from 10% to 15%. Then, in March, the company introduced another increase of around 15%, with earlier reports suggesting a 10% hike for the consumer CPU sector.
Now, we are expecting another increase to happen this May. There isn’t a specific figure that Intel reported on how much the price will spike; however, prices will increase across all CPU sectors of the company, which are consumer (Core, Core Ultra), business (vPro), and high-performance/server (Xeon) lines. This doesn’t bode well for many individuals looking to score some new PC’s this year. But why exactly is this happening in the first place?
Is AI the Problem?
According to insiders and industry professionals, AI is the leading cause of the rapid rise in not just CPU prices, but RAM and GPU prices. AI has swiftly implemented itself in modern society, especially in the gaming industry. The rapid boom of AI has caused data centers to hoard semiconductor supplies, which are what most PC components are made out of.
And unfortunately, supply cannot meet the demand. This severely halts component production, which in turn raises the price of those components. Evidently, Intel is having a difficult time keeping up with everything, which is why this will be the third round of CPU price spikes this year. And, they’re not alone. AMD, a rival technological manufacturing company, has also reported an increase in prices, indicating that the entire market will inflate in the coming months.
Gamers and PC Builders Need to Brace for Impact
Now, just to reiterate, for this round of increases in CPU prices, Intel is planning to raise prices across all CPU sectors from consumer to business to high-performance/server lines. That means regular people on the consumer level will also be severely affected by the spike in CPU prices, and I have a feeling we’ll feel it instantly.
If anyone is wondering how this could affect you, buying technology and hardware is going to be extremely difficult this year and expectedly into the next. Prices on so many things have already skyrocketed, such as RAM prices last summer, and all PlayStation 5 consoles just a couple of weeks ago, which saw over an $150 increase across all PS5 console editions. And we’ve already experienced hardships purchasing PC’s in the last year. This is definitely going to hit hard for consumers, as inflation affects other markets, so if you’re planning on buying hardware, you’re going to want to hold off this year.
