Nintendo Switch Online Added a Fun GameCube Oddity and 3 NES Games – NSO Roundup 9/26

Fox McCloud in Star Fox Adventures, recently added to Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo recently delisted Mario Kart Tour from mobile devices, but they’re still preserving some classics on Nintendo Switch Online. In September, we got three NES titles added to the retro game collections, plus Switch 2 owners got a surprise GameCube release of a classic game that has an odd history. Let’s take a look at the new additions to Nintendo Switch Online in September.

Nintendo Switch Online Additions – September 2026

Star Fox Adventures

This GameCube adventure might be the oddest game in the Star Fox series, which is largely known as a rail shooter series. Well, this game has shooting sections, but the bulk of it is a third-person adventure game. It began life as a Rare-developed  Nintendo 64 game called Dinosaur Planet, but eventually it was shifted to a Star Fox game due to Microsoft buying Rare,

However, the planet of dinosaurs is still present, and Star Fox Adventures still features a lot of the adventuring that the original game would have had. So, how is the game itself? It’s a lot of fun. Dinosaur Planet is a fun place to explore, and the Star Fox tie-in just adds to the game’s appeal. I recommend it.

Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom

This NES title is the third game in the insanely difficult Ninja Gaiden series. Like the first two games, this game features stunning cutscenes that tell the story. This time around, Ryu has been framed for murder, and he must clear his name and find the true killer. The gameplay is more of the same – you run, jump, slash enemies, and have a grand old time in this fast-paced adventure. This chapter became infamous for having limited continues when the previous two games had unlimited, but with save states, that’s no longer an issue. So save away and beat the game!

Ikari Warriors

This SNK arcade game did not make a smooth transition to the NES. You’re a gunner who goes through enemy lines, shooting down everything that moves, collecting power-ups, and occasionally commandeering tanks. It sounds like a lot of fun, but the controls are extremely clunky. Your character moves slowly, and there seems to be a slight delay between when you press the action button and when your character actually shoots. This makes for a slogging presentation. Critics on YouTube have torn this game apart, but honestly, the game deserves it.

R.C. Pro-Am II

The original R.C. Pro-Am was added to Nintendo Switch Online some time ago, and now we have the NES sequel. This game where you race remote-controlled trucks around an isometric track retains the core gameplay of the original, but adds more weapons and tracks, along with bonus stages. The controls can take some getting used to, since you’re seeing the race from an isometric perspective instead of behind the car, but it only takes a few minutes to get used to them. Once you’ve done so, this game is a blast. You can skid around corners, pick up weapons, and upgrade your truck. The game also feels fair, so you can come back from any mistake you make.

What Does October Hold for Nintendo Switch Online?

What sort of additions will we get for Nintendo Switch Online in October? It’s spooky season, so perhaps we’ll get some spooky games. Last year, Nintendo added Luigi’s Mansion to the roster in October, so perhaps we’ll see some similar games this year. In any case, it’s been a while since they’ve added any new SNES games to Nintendo Switch Online. Here’s hoping that will be remedied soon, and we’ll get some additions to the SNES library.
