Overwatch’s Newest Hero Sierra Is Bringing Style in Season 2

Season 1 of Reign of Talon saw five new heroes in Overwatch. While it barely felt like a couple of weeks since then, a season is upon us. As a result, a new hero is on its way to Overwatch. Sierra is the newest addition to the cast as another DPS hero. The American DPS will release with Season 2: Summit on April 14th, and will be hero number 51 in Overwatch.

Sierra’s Release Trailer

On April 8th, Blizzard Entertainment posted the release trailer for Sierra. It featured the newest hero alongside Emre and Freja. Sierra’s mission was to prevent Emre from escaping with something. She failed in her task, and Emre nearly executed her before Freja’s intervention. We got to see the hold the infection has over Emre, with Freja helping keep it at bay. Freja and Emre escaped with the package, with the former warning Sierra to stay away. However, Sierra left has a tracker on their ship and stated that she will “be seeing them soon”.

Early Reactions

The initial impression of Sierra is that she will likely fill a similar role in Overwatch to that of Sojourn or Emre. Even though she is not a hitscan character, her mobility should enable her to be playable in most composition styles. However, her cooldowns and damage will decide whether she takes over their spot. As a projectile hero, she will likely have a limited range. While she will not have damage falloff, her projectiles most likely will have a travel distance. That might make her limited to shorter-range maps. If she has decent range and the lock-on ability is easy to hit, she could become the premier option at dealing with flyers.

Overall, we expect Sojourn and Emre to be more prevalent in the professional meta, but time will tell. Her perks all seem good, and the choices between them will be situational. The composition you play with and against will determine the perks you should choose. All in all, we are excited to play Sierra when she releases.

No Hero Trial For Sierra

The Hero Trial for Anran before season 1 was the final one for the time being. Sierra will not have a trial phase. That means players will not be able to test her before she goes live on April 14th. She should be available in Competitive Play as soon as Season 2: Summit releases next week.

Competitive Drives Are Live

Players can earn Competitive points and the new Competitive signatures from now until the end of the season. Winning games earns you additional progress, while losses will set you back on your climb. Good luck driving out there!
