Weekly Free Games on the Epic Games Store April 16 – April 23, 2026
Every Thursday, the Epic Games Store offers one or more games to claim totally free. Build up your game library with amazing titles from a range of genres and styles. This week, we have a strikingly visual game that isn’t for the faint of heart. Add a classic award-winning game from 1996 now on mobile, and we have a winning pair for the more mature gamers out there.
The Stone of Madness

In The Stone of Madness, you alternate control between five people who are prisoners in an 18th-century Spanish Jesuit monastery. Each playable character has their own set of skills and phobias. Not only will you have to make the best use of their skills as you sneak around the monastery, but you’ll also have to be careful of triggering their fears, which affects their sanity and changes how the character is played.
The game features two possible escape plans with different “stories, objectives, special characters, and other surprises.” Spend your day sneaking around to explore, gather information, and gather materials. Exploring at night has the added risks of more vigilant guards and supernatural horrors.
The game’s stills do not do it justice. This is one you have to see in motion to truly appreciate it. The art style is intentionally styled like the paintings of Francisco de Goya and has been hand-painted and “animated frame by frame.”
The Epic Games Store is offering The Stone of Madness for free until April 23, 2026, at 10 AM central time. It is rated T for Teen due to the game’s themes.
Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged

The Epic Games Store on mobile has a 1996 classic remastered and enhanced for mobile. Fans of the original edition of Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars can jump in for a nostalgia trip with new graphics or choose to toggle over to enjoy the original graphics. Folks who’ve never experienced the adventure of George Stobbart and Nico Collard have the chance to enjoy it now for free.
You’ll play as the explorer, George Stobbard, investigating the secrets of the Knights Templar by traveling around the world, including places like Paris, Syria, and Ireland. Solve the puzzles and find the truth.
The surprising detail about this game is that it is fully voice-acted. That’s quite unusual for a mobile game. The graphics look beautiful, and it has an original soundtrack by composer Barrington Pheloung. It can be played offline and supports touch, controller, or mouse.
The mobile version is free through the Epic Games Store mobile until April 23, 2026, at 10 AM central time. It is available for PC and Mac as well, for $29.99
How to Claim Freebies From the Epic Games Store
Whether you want to play on your PC, Mac, Android, or iOS device, you can find the download information on the Epic Games Store website. If you’re on a computer, you can download the Epic Games Launcher to access and play your games. I know that’s not exactly shocking, and you probably figured that out already.
For the mobile games, you’ll need the QR code. Use the camera on your mobile device to scan the QR code, which will direct you to the download page. You will have to enable downloads from other sources. (Other than the native app store, that is.) This app isn’t available on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. After installing the app, launch it, sign in, and then scroll down to find the current free game.
And that’s what we have for you this week! Check back next week, and we’ll highlight the new game offerings from the Epic Games Store. We’re staying on top of the latest gaming news, so you don’t have to worry about any FOMO.
Happy gaming!
