Overwatch Season 1 Hero Guide: Dominate the Battlefield As Domina
Overwatch has made significant changes with its new season. Of those changes are five heroes, one of which is Domina. Domina is the first poke-centric Tank in Overwatch since the release of Sigma, six years ago. Domina brings authority to the battlefield and demands attention. She can output incredible damage numbers and carry teamfights. Below is all you need to know about Overwatch’s newest tank hero.
Overwatch: Domina Kit Breakdown

Reconstruction – Dealing damage with abilities restores shields
Reconstruction is imperative to Domina’s success. The shield restoration makes her immovable. Domina restores 75% of the damage dealt as shields. Because Domina can restore shields, we want to utilize it as a resource. Take damage so that your abilities canretain maximum value.
Stalwart – Reduces knockbacks and slows received.
With the newest season comes new subrole passives. Domina’s sub-role passive is similar to that of the previous tank passive.
Photon Magnum – Medium-range beam that culminates in a high-impact shot.
Photon Magnum is a deadly primary fire. Two critical hits on a 250 hp will leave them in the dust. Getting used to the primary fire is vital to dominate the battlefield. You want to land as many consecutive shots as possible. Even if you do not secure kills, any damage creates pressure.
Barrier Array – A segmented hard‑light barrier deployed in front of Domina. Enemies can destroy individual segments of the barrier.
Barrier Array is unique compared to other Barriers in Overwatch. Once deployed, the barrier has 27 segments. Each segment has a separate health pool, allowing players to break specific sections. The cooldown for Barrier Array is lengthy. You want to try to maximise your health pool first, before using the barrier. Once broken, look to play around any cover while you wait for the next barrier, if needed.
Crystal Charge – Project an explosive crystal that you can reactivate to detonate it.
Crystal Charge is the most efficient way to build ultimate as Domina. Even hitting two targets at a time can generate around 15%-20% ultimate charge. You can also combine Crystal Charge with Photon Magnum and Sonic Repulsors for a one-shot combo. The ability can pass through barriers, allowing you to damage unsuspecting foes.
Sonic Repulsors – Push enemies back, stunning them if they hit a wall.
There are two use cases for Sonic Repulsors. You can knock enemies away to create space. For example, if a Reinhardt has closed the gap on you, knocking them away can save your life. The other use is purely to inflict damage and kill them faster. To do this, you have to knock enemies into a wall.
Panopticon – Fire a hard-light barrier that imprisons enemies and detonates on expiration.
Based on the damage numbers, Panopticon has a serious damage output. However, on most occasions, you will not get the maximum damage from it. Panopticon deals damage based on the remaining shield health placed on the enemy by the ability. Most of the time, enemies will deal damage or even break the shield. Prioritize using the ultimate to counter damage from enemies or other ultimates.

Overwatch: Domination Tips for Domina

Cover Is Your Best Friend
Domina has a fairly easy hitbox to hit. Without her Barrier Array, enemies can eliminate her swiftly. Move into cover if you do not have a barrier to stand behind. Once here, you can look to peak quickly, once again utilizing your health as a resource. Domina suffers from only having shields. As a result, she lacks the protection that heroes like Reinhardt, D.Va, and Orisa have.
Playing Around Shield Health
Because shield health is regenerative both passively and through abilities, it is your best key to survival. Ducking out of line of sight will ensure that you grant yourself time to regenerate shields. There are a few situations where you should find yourself at full health. The reason being that you want to peak without using your shield on different occasions.
Play Your Range
While you do have effectiveness at close range, it is not nearly as good as your long-range capabilities. Close-range focused heroes will tear Domina apart if she approaches them. Look to weaken enemies’ health bars and resources at range. Once you achieve that, you can look to secure kills by moving in closer. Damage is your best deterrent to anyone pushing towards you.
