First Stand 2026 Match Review: G2 Defeat a Threatening Opponent

On paper, G2 Esports are the favorites for this First Stand series. However, G2 has struggled in recent international tournaments. The series against Team Secret Whales was not one of those occasions. G2 won the series 3-0, but the scoreline does not tell the full story. Game one was a stomp, but for the rest, TSW had chances to take a game off of G2. They will face Bilibili Gaming in the First Stand qualification match.

Early-game Sillyness

It looks like G2 is about to win a skirmish in the mid-lane, but Hizto escapes and ends up dying to an execute. BrokenBlade gives up most of his lane to help his team. Pun in isolation has 40 cs more than BrokenBlade and a 1.4k gold lead.

A Topsy Turvy Mid-game

Pun dies early in the Hextech soul fight. It looks like G2 will dominate the fight. Hizto connects onto Labrov and Hans Sama to secure two kills. Dire is the only other TSW casualty as they deny the soul. A second consecutive soul fight goes in TSW’s favor. Once again, G2 gets the first pick of the fight, but it does not matter.

Baron To Win The Game

G2 has the initial position on the Baron. They secure the objective before TSW shows up. TSW tries to punish G2, but they lose the fight. G2 pushes the top lane to end the game.

G2 Esports

BrokenBlade – 6.3

BrokenBlade died for First Blood two games in a row. Both times were solo kills at the hands of Pun. Besides those moments, he had a solid series.

SkewMond – 7.3

SkewMond was reliable during the series. He was there whenever G2 needed him. He rarely died in situations where he should not.

Caps – 7.7

Caps had a monstrous performance during the first game of the series. Caps was pivotal in the other games and earned the player of the series award.

Hans Sama – 7.3

Hans Sama had to navigate difficult situations during the series. He performed well in those scenarios. He had a couple of mistakes during the series.

Labrov – 6.3

At times, Labrov was shaky during the series. He died in unnecessary positions. His Braum looked weak as he did not peel well for Hans Sama.

Team Secret Whales

Pun – 4.7

Pun’s early game against BrokenBlade was solid. He earned two solo kills, but that’s where his impact stopped. He got baited too often and overpushed in teamfights.

Hizto – 5.7

Hizto was the best player for TSW. He was the reason they had a chance in game two, killing Hans Sama multiple times. He had one mistake in game three, but other than that, he was solid.

Dire – 5.3

Dire can add a solo kill on Caps to his resume. He was solid in the series. He had moments of brilliance but was rarely the reason for TSW’s losses.

Eddie – 4.7

Eddie’s tendencies shone through the day. He died in situations he should not have. His awareness in fights needs to be better.

Bie – 5.3

Similar to Dire, Bie was solid. His performance on Thresh was the best he played during the series. He helped TSW restore a lead early in that game.
