League of Legends Legend Faker Will Feature on Korean Postage Stamps Coming October 2026

If you know even just a little about League of Legends or e-sports, you’ve probably heard of Faker, the League of Legends pro who has won the most World Championships, since his 13-year stint as an active e-sports player. He has won so many accolades and maintains a legendary, near-unbeaten record in the world of e-sports; he’s even recieved the South Korean Order of Sport Merit, which is the highest sporting honor in the country, earlier this year.

Now, Faker gets to add another accolade under his belt, albeit somewhat unusual. The Korea Post announced on Monday that Faker will be featured on the national postage stamp to commemorate his achievements in the world of e-sports and the prestige he has brought to his native country.

Faker: The Postage Stamp of Tomorrow

As stated earlier this week, the Korea Post announced they will be releasing a commemorative postage stamp of e-sports legend Lee Sang-hyeok, who goes by the name Faker, in October of this year. The Korea Post issues commemorative postage stamps to honor historically significant figures, events, and occasions, as well as to promote national projects and foster public sentiment, and Faker will be joining the list of significant figures who are on commemorative postage stamps.

An X post from a fan translator account, who posts all things Faker, talks about the commemoration, noting the uniqueness of the situation, writing,

“This commemorative stamp symbolically reflects the elevated status of Korean esports. In the past, official commemorative stamps issued by the government were typically created to honor historical figures or major national events.

It is highly unusual for an active esports player to be featured alone on an official South Korean commemorative stamp. This highlights that T1’s Faker (Lee Sang-hyeok) has gone beyond being just a professional gamer and has established himself as a global cultural icon.”

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has been featured on a national postage stamp. From the likes of South Korean Olympic gold medalist Kim Yuna to the global K-pop phenomenon BTS to the widely popular Korean animated TV series Pororo, the Korean Post has a habit of celebrating cultural icons in South Korea. With the immense cultural impact Faker has had, not just in the e-sports world but for his native country, it is no wonder that South Korea would want to commemorate him for his achievements.

The Legend of League of Leagends

Faker has been an active e-sports gamer for over 13 years. Even during his early years, he’s shown a high-level skillset and prowess in the e-sports world, dominating competitions, beating out top players at the time, and winning dozens of major titles in world championships. He’s even the proud owner of one of the most legendary reverse plays in League of Legends, something he is probably most famous for.

Faker has been awarded the Korea Esports Hall of Fame Esports Star 6 different times from 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024. He was also recognized on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia Entertainment & Sports list in 2019 and the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40 in 2025. This year, Faker was also awarded the honor of receiving the Cheongnyong Medal of the Order of Sport Merit, another highly unusual accolade considering the award is traditionally offered to athletes in the physical sense.

In the past decade, South Korea has become a global powerhouse in cultural and economic aspects. The world has been on the Korean culture grind from K-pop to film to manhwa, and the celebrities and artists leading the charge are being widely recognized both nationally and globally. It’s definitely exciting to see Faker represent gaming in Korean society, and I’m interested to see what else he’ll be able to achieve in the near future.
