State of Play Confirms New John Wick Video Game
PlayStation’s State of Play dropped some exciting announcements about video games we should expect later this year and into next year. One of them being the John Wick video game. This announcement comes after rumors of a John Wick video game adaptation have been swirling on the internet, and it definitely has fans of the film franchise excited. Here’s all we know about the game adaptation and everything that was revealed in the trailer.

John Wick had become an icon in the action world, especially being played by the iconic Keanu Reeves. With the success oft he first film spawning 3 sequels, and a spin-off film, featuring a cameo with Keanu Reeves, it was only a matter of time before the gaming industry wanted a piece of this Hollywood gem. The series has become one of the most popular film series in the last decade, and fans have long speculated that a game adaptation was in the works.
This year’s PlayStation State of Play confirmed these rumors with a reveal announcement trailer of the game. The trailer starts in a tailor shop, where the owner is tailoring a “special suit” for our star protagonist, explaining how a man with his specific skill set should wear proper attire to accomplish his goals. With all the action set to background music by Vivaldi’s “Summer” from the Four Seasons, players will get to experience the action for themselves instead of just watching it on the big screen.
Gameplay Reveal
The latter part of the trailer reveals early development gameplay footage of the game. We see a lot of the iconic fight scenes we are used to seeing in the movie; the only difference is that we would be in control of the Baba Yaga, in all his assassin glory. From hand-to-hand combat to gunplay to knife fights, and using anything as a weapon, we see that Saber Interactive has definitely brought that John Wick signature style of action to this game adaptation.
Keanu Reeves Reprises His Iconic Role
If that wasn’t enough, it’s been reported that Keanu Reeves will be reprising his role in this upcoming action game. From the trailer, we hear a lot of talking from the tailor shop owner, while he is fitting John Wick, ending his monologue with “I believe you’re ready… sir”, and the man of few words answering “yeah”. Saber Interactive doesn’t want to spoil much for this game, especially so early on in development; however, the few snippets we get in this reveal trailer are enough to keep fans excited.
This untitled John Wick game will have players become the Baba Yaga in a single-player third-person action game. This will also be an original storyline, which will expand the John Wick universe and contribute to the expansive and rich lore of the franchise. The timeline will be specific and land somewhere between the film franchise. Again, not much is known about gameplay and the storyline; however, we know the story is being developed in collaboration with Chad Stahelski and Lionsgate.
The reveal trailer did not announce a release date or an expected release timeline, so we shouldn’t expect the game to be released anytime soon. Here is what Saber Interactive game director, Jesus Iglesias, says about what they’ve been developing with this game and what they hope to achieve:
