Last week, Square Enix announced a Switch 2 port for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second game in the remake trilogy series. This is a pretty monumental shift as it takes away from Square Enix’s focus on console exclusives. For the past couple of years, Square Enix has pushed their games out on every console possible, reaching a wider audience, so it wasn’t a surprise when they announced a Switch 2 edition for the game.

It was during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation that Square Enix announced the Switch 2 port of the game. It was during this time that Xbox also announced its edition of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth coming to its console. The Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will drop on June 3, 2026, and is now available for pre-order. With the launch of Rebirth coming soon, the game has reportedly already been selling out on several different storefronts, including the Square Enix official website.

Switch 2 Edition Has Sold Out on Square Enix Store

Yesterday, it was reported that the Switch 2 edition of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had sold out on the Square Enix store. According to X user Stealth40k, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Switch 2 port has already sold out on the Square Enix store in the US, just three days after its reveal. This is a testament to the hype surrounding the continuation of the trilogy, with the final part expected to be released sometime next year.

When the Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched on Switch 2, it was a hot seller, which tells us that Rebirth would have the same reception, with fans of the series jumping at the opportunity to own a physical copy of the game on Switch 2. Also, the Switch 2 port for Rebirth is releasing an exclusive Zack Fair Magic: The Gathering card, and we know just how much fans love their merch. Though we know that Square Enix will come out with more stock pretty soon, it’s really interesting to see Rebirth sell out so quickly.

The Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy first launched back in 2020, and fans were pretty excited about this modern remake of the classic game. The expectations were high, and the first game definitely delivered an amazing remake. Rebirth carried that same energy, building off of Remake and introducing the franchise to many new players, so it’s especially exciting that Square Enix is branching out and making the games available on different platforms.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Updates

With the impending release of Rebirth on both the Switch 2 and Xbox coming this summer, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will officially become a full multi‑platform title. This news comes before any updates on the last part of the trilogy, which is expected to be released sometime next year.

This would align with the 30th anniversary of the original game, and fans are expecting a huge launch, especially after the success of the first two games. Fans also feel Square Enix will come out with a teaser for the new game this year, and fans are eagerly waiting for some kind of update or announcement. Til then, I hope players enjoy the Switch 2 and Xbox port of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
