Battlefield 6 Season 2 is Here But No One Cares Anymore
Last year, Battlefield 6 broke records with its Open Beta performance, garnering its highest concurrent player count during the open beta sessions, and smashing Black Ops 7 Open Beta performance 5 times over, peaking at over half a million players. However, soon after the full release of the game, the heat that Battlefield 6 experienced quickly simmered down, and it’s still looking pretty grim for the FPS shooter.
4 months after the game’s launch, Battlefield 6 has released season 2, and unfortunately, the game has struggled to bring back players who once raved about it before and at launch. The devs hoped for a resurgence of the game with season 2, but I think there’s just no getting that interest from players back. Here’s how the release of Battlefield 6 Season 2 went down.
Battlefield 6 Season 2
Battlefield 6 just dropped its Season 2 a couple of days ago, and it’s not doing so well. Season 2 included some pretty big updates: a brand-new battle pass filled with cosmetic rewards, boosters, Battlefield Coins, and updates to RedSec. Battlefield 6’s Season 2 battle pass included free and premium tiers. Some items are unlocked for free through progression, while many items will be tied to the paid battle pass, which you can purchase for 1,100 Battlefield Coins.
There are 110 tiers of the battle pass in total, including 39 free items and 71 premium rewards. You can also unlock 3 new guns in Season 2: the GRT-CPS DMR, the M121 A2 light machinegun, and the VCR-2 assault rifle. These are some pretty neat rewards, given that this is just Season 2; however, it seems that Battlefield Studios fell short on a successful update to the game.
Unfortunately, No One Cares Anymore
With all the new updates and rewards available in Season 2, the devs had hoped to bring back Battlefield 6 to its former glory, when hundreds of thousands of players were loving the game. Since the game launched, player interest has decreased dramatically, and the devs had hoped Season 2 would bring people back. Aside from failing to bring back players to the game, viewership dropped significantly, suggesting that nobody is interested in watching the game, let alone playing it.
When Season 2 dropped a couple of days ago, player count hit a peak of 92,281, barely hitting a tenth of their highest player count recorded on SteamDB. Now, I’m not knocking these numbers at all. Hitting almost 100,000 concurrent players on Steam is a commendable feat, something that shouldn’t be ignored or understated. However, if Battlefield Studios wanted a resurgence of the game with the Season 2 update, then it looks as if Battlefield 6 has failed.
Granted, Season 2 took 4 months to release after the game officially launched last October. And during that time, Battlefield 6 lost significant interest for multiple reasons. With the negative reviews RedSec recieved when it launched last October, the backlash Battlefield 6 recieved over its wacky skins, buggy gameplay, and player boycotts, it’s really not all that surprising that Season 2 didn’t do as well as the devs hoped it would.
Steam Charts

Above is a screenshot of the most current SteamDB stats on Battlefield 6. The significant decreas of concurrent players between a couple of days ago and today is stark, but not at all surprising. The fact that the game almost reached 100,000 concurrent players when Season 2 launched is actually pretty surprising. However, the contrast between two days ago and today confirms the waning interest in the game right now.
Battlefield 6 Season 2 is available to download and play now. If you’re interested in claiming all the rewards and exploring the new updates for the game, which include 2 brand new maps, it’s available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA App.
