The “Games We Play” release date is set for Dec. 4, with Vertical putting the psychological thriller starring Casey Cott in select theaters and on video on demand the same day, according to Deadline. Blue Fox Entertainment, which picked up international rights, will introduce the film to buyers at the American Film Market.

“Games We Play” release date and platforms

  • Date: Dec. 4
  • Platforms: Select theaters and VOD
  • Distributors: Vertical (North America), Blue Fox Entertainment (international)

Vertical holds North American distribution rights to the film and will handle the simultaneous theatrical and VOD rollout in December.

What we know about “Games We Play”

The story follows Imogen, who tags along with her boyfriend, Jack, and his two childhood best friends, Gage and Freddie, on a weekend getaway. She quickly realizes she’s the odd one out and starts working hard to win the group over. Then a tournament of high-stakes games gets underway, and things turn dark fast. Before long, Imogen is giving up pieces of herself to keep up, and she can’t tell whether she’s losing her mind or in real danger.

Margot Pitts stars as Imogen, while Cott plays Jack. Dylan McTee and Adam Faison round out the friend group as Gage and Freddie. Pitts co-wrote the script with Molly Scharlin Ben-Hamoo, and the two also served as executive producers. Rachael Dahl directed, making her feature directorial debut.

“‘Games We Play’ is a timely examination of the universal struggle for social survival, where the desire to belong can become just as dangerous as the fight to stay alive,” Ben-Hamoo said in a statement.

Cott is best known for playing Kevin Keller across all seven seasons of The CW’s “Riverdale.” He made his Broadway debut as Christian in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” in 2023 and appeared in the feature film “Asking for It.” Pitts has appeared on CBS’ “FBI.”

Why it matters

Blue Fox Entertainment and Vertical split the rights to “Games We Play” heading into AFM, which runs Nov. 10-15 in Los Angeles. That puts the film in front of international buyers at the same time its North American release date is set.

“‘Games We Play’ delivers the kind of suspenseful, character-driven thriller that we’re excited to bring to international buyers,” Lisa Gutberlet, president of Blue Fox Entertainment, said in a statement.

The setup gives the film a dual track: Blue Fox builds international sales interest while Vertical rolls out its theatrical and VOD plan at home.

What’s next

“Games We Play” arrives in select theaters and on VOD on Dec. 4 through Vertical. At AFM, Blue Fox will pitch the title to buyers from other territories, which should shape where it lands outside North America.
