Frasier Fans, Rejoice: Peri Gilpin Is Joining The Cast

It’s such great news to know that some of the old gang on Frasier is gathering together with Peri Gilpin joining up for the reboot.

Paramount+ has announced that Gilpin will appear as Roz Doyle in a recurring role in the show’s second season. She popped up on the Season 1 finale, sharing scenes with Kelsey Grammer. Fans of the original sitcom will remember Roz as Crane’s radio show producer. The back-and-forth between them kept viewers glued to the tube.

According to TV Line, James Burrows, who directed episodes of Cheers and Frasier, will also direct a couple of episodes in the upcoming season.

For fans who are looking to catch up with the show, Frasier has now moved back to Boston. He left Seattle in the rear-view mirror. Dr. Crane is using his expertise as a psychiatrist to teach at Harvard these days. Besides  Grammer and Gilpin, other cast members include Jack Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salguerio, and Anders Keith.

Frasier is working on his relationship with his son Freddy, played by Cutmore-Scott. News also was released on Thursday that production on Season 2 is underway.

Peri Gilpin Called ‘Frasier’ Season 1 Experience ‘Fun’

After working on the show at the end of last season, Gilpin talked about the experience. “It was fun to revisit and felt really good,” Gilpin said in a December 2023 interview with The Wrap. “I wasn’t expecting it not to be, but I really was surprised at how great it felt to be there again. I genuinely love this character. So I would love to do it [again]. It just depends on what happens next.”

She took note of this new show. She noted that there is a “real freshness” to this show.

“It’s very different from the last one, but then there’s things that feel really familiar,” she said. “It’s like comfort food hearing Frasier’s voice and they have a lot of great references to John [Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father Martin Crane], who I miss a lot. “It just feels like a different chapter, but it still has a lot of the same resonance of the last one.”

We’re sure that fans of the original show on NBC would not mind seeing other friendly faces. Don’t hold out hope on this, though. David Hyde-Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother, Niles, has said that he’s not interested in appearing. Jane Leeves, who played Niles’ wife and Martin’s live-in caregiver, Daphne, also isn’t lined up to show up. But the lead character gets a chance to give fans some funny moments with Roz

Grammer has been keeping busy beyond this sitcom’s reboot. His fans can tune into Fox Nation and see his series, Kelsey Grammer’s Historic Battles. The actor has been married four times and has seven children.

How good was the original show? It picked up 37 Primetime Emmy Awards for cast members and the show’s production. It ran for 11 seasons and cemented the actors and characters in fans’ minds. The rebooted show can now be seen on Paramount+. If you are looking for reruns, then they pop up regularly on PlutoTV.
