Ford is recalling 41,748 Expedition SUVs and Super Duty pickups due to contaminated LED chips in headlight assemblies, according to Car and Driver. The defect can leave lights dim or dark, raising crash risk in low visibility.
The Ford Expedition recall covers model years 2025 through 2027, while the affected Super Duty lineup includes the 2026 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks, Car and Driver reported.
Ford Expedition Recall Details
Ford traced the problem to contaminated LED chips inside the headlight assembly that can keep the lights from meeting federal safety standards, Car and Driver reported. The automaker estimates only about 1% of the recalled vehicles actually have the contaminated chips, but it is inspecting the full population out of caution.
Drivers with a failing unit won’t be left guessing. Ford said an indicator light will illuminate on the dashboard to warn owners that low-beam or high-beam performance has dropped, according to Car and Driver.
What It Means For Expedition And Super Duty Owners
Owners don’t need to do anything until they hear from Ford. The company will mail notification letters directly to customers, asking them to schedule a headlight inspection at a Ford or Lincoln dealer, Car and Driver reported.
A technician will check both headlights. If they pass inspection, the owner is sent on their way with no further work needed. If either headlight fails, the dealer will replace the faulty unit at no charge, according to Car and Driver.
That no-cost repair is good news for anyone driving an affected Expedition or heavy-duty pickup, since headlight assemblies can be a costly repair out of pocket.

What’s Next
For context on recent vehicle safety issues, Range Rover recalled 873 Sport SUVs over dangerous cracks.
Ford will begin mailing recall notices to dealers on Oct. 26, and owner notification letters will go out starting Nov. 6, Car and Driver reported. Starting Oct. 26, owners can also check the NHTSA website to see if their specific vehicle identification number is included in the recall.
Anyone noticing dimmer headlights, a flickering low-beam or a dashboard warning light before receiving a notice should contact their local Ford or Lincoln dealer to ask about scheduling an inspection.
