Maintaining a nutritious diet throughout life can help prevent a variety of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and illnesses, as well as malnutrition in all its manifestations. A rise in the manufacturing of processed foods, fast urbanization, and altered lifestyles have changed dietary habits.
A lot of products are marketed as being really healthy, but you need to be aware of their actual ingredients and characteristics. As people become increasingly conscious of consuming food’s role in maintaining our health throughout life, they are making every effort to adopt a nutritious diet.
Undoubtedly, this is a good thing. Nevertheless, producers are aware of this interest and are attempting to take advantage of it by marketing items that may be more nutritionally complex when examined more closely.
Foods affecting your diet
The first thing they advise us to do when we want to lose weight is to pay attention to our nutrition. It is undeniable that a large number of us try. The issue is that, despite this, it takes time for the results to become apparent. Because in reality, some of the things you once believed to be healthful are unhealthy and negatively impact your diet. Here, we’ll provide you with a list of five foods that have long since tricked your diet and overall health.
Vegetarian ‘meats’

Plenty of excellent vegetarian alternatives are available for individuals who choose to cut out meat from their diet for any reason. They shouldn’t, however, deceive you because they frequently include unhealthy additives like caramel coloring, canola oil, and processed soy protein. It’s a good idea to choose entire protein sources, including beans, lentils, eggs, dairy products, or fermented soy, for people on a plant-based diet.
Kombucha

Although most fermented foods are thought to be healthful, not all of them are. While some foods, like yogurt, pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut, and kefir, use bacteria to ferment, kombucha uses yeast. While this doesn’t necessarily have a bad effect, consuming too much of it can lead to gut flora imbalances. As usual, moderation is essential.
0% yogurt

Foods like yogurt have long been linked to a host of health advantages. According to several researchers, they even appear to have a protective impact against obesity. It is equally true, though, that the idea of yogurt has been corrupted recently. In fact, research published a few months ago warned that most retail yogurts had higher-than-recommended sugar content.
This research work saved some Greek yogurts from burning, a variety that, despite its high-fat content, is recommended from a nutritional point of view. Why, then, do they sell us yogurts with no fat? This is a ruse. Yogurt is not necessarily better for you just since it has 0% fat. The claim that skimmed or fat-free dairy products are superior to full-fat dairy products has actually been refuted by several studies. Naturally, these yogurts may also contain a lot of sugar.
Light mayonnaise

Let’s be honest: industrial mayonnaise is an extremely processed sauce that is highly undesired from a nutritional standpoint, regardless of how many claims this product makes. The oils utilized in its production are the primary source of its issues. We are not talking about industrial mayonnaise with a lot of oil—almost all of it fat. Instead, we are talking about mayonnaise made with a small amount of vegetable oil.
And thin mayonnaise? It is still not advised at all. According to legal definitions, this final word denotes a 30% reduction in fat content or calories. However, packaged mayonnaise has so many calories that even if we remove some and make a ‘light’ version, it still has a high caloric value.
Fried, salted, and/or honey nuts
Peanuts, almonds, or walnuts—nuts in general—are healthful foods. Their high satiating capacity and high fiber content are not linked to weight gain, even with their high caloric value and polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. Moreover, they’re regularly a part of diet plans for weight loss. However, these advantages are limited to nuts consumed uncooked.
The typical mixes that we buy in shops are not advised choices because, aside from being fried, they also typically contain a significant quantity of salt. The same is true of peanuts that have been honeyed or caramelized. This procedure distorts the finished product. For instance, 10.5 grams of sugar (or 2.6 lumps) are hidden within 75 grams of peanuts mixed with honey and salt.
