We Died at This Final Destination 6 Announcement!

final destination: bloodlines

Shocked, yes? Obviously not. After all, this is Final Destination 6 we’re talking about. But what I am shocked about (and what consequently caused my apparent ‘death’ via a spoon that got stuck in the dryer, heated up, and then stayed hot due to a variable chemical reaction, which as I reached in to grab clothes, the spoon touched my skin and burned me to death)…. Is this:

Not Only Was Final Destination 6 Just Announced on Instagram, But…

…Principal photography was just completed! And by ‘just announced’, I mean literally early this month of May! We’re also now in the middle of the month, and principal photography is complete. We’re moving fast.

But seriously, where was I when all of this was happening? This is the quintessential horror film about unexpected and elaborate deaths of extremity, some of the most gruesome departures of the human soul known to man. Not even Jason Voorhees has a stake in this. We dare you to say you never flinched at any of the death scenes of the five previous films. We dare you. Not even an Avengers death scene would make you flinch like these Final Destination films.

Ain’t going to happen, no sir.

I’m arguably even more shocked that this is a surprise to me, literally just finding it out. Even more shocking is how big the gap is between the sequels—thirteen years.

That’s Right—Final Destination 5 Was Over A Decade Ago

And now the word is Final Destination 6—which you should know will be going by the actual title Final Destination: Bloodlines—after years upon years of development (which I also wasn’t aware of), the plan is for this new film to release in 2025. Mum’s the word on what month, though. But 2025? That’s roughly six months away! Pretty scary.

We just might even see a trailer soon! Starring a wild cast of Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee, you can expect this one to be a wild ride, and it will make me wonder…

Will Brec Bassinger play Clear Rivers’ (Ali Larter) daughter? Or Alex Browning’s (Devon Sawa) daughter? Oh, kill me. Holy wow…

The Final Destination 6 Synopsis Might Say Otherwise

Here’s a peak at what the film’s centering on (and what “Bloodlines” means):

Just as she’s about to leave home for college, 18-year-old STEFANI, who’s been having horrific nightmares about dying in a tower accident in the 1960s, discovers that her dream is actually a premonition that happened to her grandmother Esther who thwarted death fifty years ago but is now running out of time. Stefani learns that though her grandmother thwarted Death (until she died in her 80s), Death has been going after the would-have-been victims of that long-ago catastrophe, killing them off and then going after their children. Stefani and her family realize that their bloodline isn’t safe from Death, who will take them violently and gruesomely, in order, unless someone like Stefani figures out a way to stop it.

Now I know what you’re thinking…

Could Final Destination 6 Bring Us Full Circle?

Are we looking at what possibly originated the first film in full? Is ‘Esther’ actually related to Devon Sawa’s character from the original film? Are we finally going to know why and how he had a premonition about a plane crash? Will Tony Todd return for his iconic role as William Bludworth?

We have potentially a year to wait on those answers, but here’s a little spoiler alert:

(Yes, Tony Todd will be returning with that deep, raspy voice of his!)
