Fantastic Four Movie Confirmed A Period Piece By Marvel Studios President

One of the most anticipated projects coming from Marvel Studios is the new Fantastic Four movie. The franchise has some of the most beloved characters in comic book history, but the movie versions haven’t caught on. While the Jessica Alba-led movies were liked for the most part, the recent reboot left a bad taste in the mouths of many fans. When the poster was revealed, fans noted the style looked to be straight out of the 1960s. Kevin Feige confirmed the timeline in a recent podcast interview.

On The Official Marvel Podcast, Kevin Feige talked about the time period in which the Fantastic Four will be set. He confirmed it would be a period piece in the 1960s but also teased there might be more than meets the eye. He knows that fans want to try to get any information out of him on where the MCU is going. Feige is staying tight-lipped while teasing fans.

“It is a period [piece], and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air, making a four symbol. There was a cityscape in the corner of that image and there was a lot of smart people who noticed that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know and the New York that existed in the 60s in our world. And those are smart observations, I’ll say.”

Many have speculated that the Fantastic Four will somehow be pulled into the modern era at some point. Marvel has been teasing a Multiverse Saga and may be using a Secret Wars-type storyline to reset the MCU. Feige isn’t saying much but this is too popular of a franchise not to crossover into future movies.

Star-Studded Cast

The original poster was meant to tease the cast before fans started the speculation train. Pedro Pascal will portray Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, marking the popular actor’s first MCU role. To round out the Fantastic Four, Vanessa Kirby will play Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon-Moss Bachrach will play Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn will play Johnny Storm/Human Torch. The all-star cast doesn’t stop there.

The movie will also star Ralph Ineson as the villain Galactus, Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, and Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich in currently unknown roles. Filming is scheduled to start next month. Kevin Feige talked more about his excitement for the project.

“I’m extremely excited by it because I think those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel universe that we’ve never got to play with or explore in any significant way, apart from Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before. In the way that we’re doing it in that film.”

While it hasn’t been hugely popular on the silver screen, the Fantastic Four is one of the most popular comics of all time. People connected with “Marvel’s First Family” as they were some of the few superheroes without secret identities. People knew them as the people and as the heroes.

Can The MCU Be Saved?

The MCU has been struggling quite a bit in recent years. Disney CEO Bob Iger admitted they needed to focus more on quality over quantity. This film is a part of the new era. Marvel Studios is banking on these more popular titles to usher in a new era for the MCU.

The Infinity Saga was one of the most groundbreaking projects in film history. Following it up will be no easy task. However, the Fantastic Four could be the franchise that propels the MCU into a new era. Fans will get to see the heroes on screen in July of 2025 when the movie is scheduled to release.
