Fans Unimpressed With New Katy Perry Album

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is back. The star has finally returned to the music scene with her seventh studio album, 143. Katy Perry lost the public with her fourth album, and it only got worse with the fifth, so pop fans waited in anticipation to see if she could reclaim her throne as a pop hit-maker. The album got mixed reviews online, with her fan base eating it up, but overall, pop lovers aren’t too pleased with it.

A Controversial Start

Some fans jumped ship when she released the lead single to this album. She released the promo hit, ”A Woman’s World,” which caused a riot online. Fans thought the song was distasteful and contradicted the song’s attempt to be a feminist anthem. The popstar worked with defamed producer Luke, who fellow popstar Kesha accused of Sexual Assault.

She released the song’s music video, which did not go over well with the public and pop enthusiasts. The singer claimed the video was very slapstick sarcasm, but the rest of the world didn’t see it as such. Fans thought it was weird and catering to the male gaze. On top of that, they felt that the lyrics felt flat. She speaks about a woman’s world, but the song’s message remains vague, with no one truly knowing what she wants to say.

Reviews and Fan Reaction To Katy Perry’s Album

Katy Perry’s album got low reviews, rating 34 on Metacritic, making it the worst rating for an album by a female artist. Tied for the highest rating is between The Independent and The Guardian, which both gave it a 40/100. Sputnikmusic gave it a 20; the lowest it received was a 5/100 by A. V Clubs.

As for general pop listeners, it’s pretty much the same. Most are complaining about the lack of depth in the lyrics and how dated the sound of the album is. Many feel the singer still tries to hold on to her glory days. The American Idols judge released the second wing of the album, 143: I Love You More, which has three new songs in it, in an attempt to help with streams. The album debuted with 6.6 million streams on Spotify, and those streams are already beginning to decline.

In Conclusion

Katy Perry is in a time where she could retire and still be a legend. Her introduction to pop was insane. She released bangers on bangers and redefined pop music in the 10s. Her music was fun and youthful, and that was because she was younger. To expect her to be the same as she was then is not fair to her or her artistry, and even she has to keep that in mind.

Change is good. She needs to embrace the changing industry and move with it, not against it. Katy Perry should be fine, and she will be fine. She’s currently in Brazil, performing to a sold-out crowd, but maybe she doesn’t need to reflect on her music decisions. And find inspiration in her current life. And her die-hard fans must be ready to grow and change with her.
