How Fairly Oddparents A New Wish Hinted Poof’s Return

Fairly Oddparents: A New Wish

On July 22nd, Fairly Oddparents: A New Wish aired a new episode called Lost and Founder’s Day on Nickelodeon. As the audience watched the episode, fans were greeted by a new character with a familiar name. Poof, the son of Cosmo and Wanda, made his return as an adult; in this show, he will now be called Peri. Spoiler alert: the episode may have left clues about Poof becoming Dev’s godparent.

Who Is Poof?

Poof is the love child of Timmy Turner’s former godparents, Cosmo and Wanda, from the original Fairly Oddparents series. He first appeared as the adorable purple baby in the TV special Fairly Oddbaby, where he is given birth by Cosmo, or, in this case, was wished to be born from Cosmo’s belly.

What makes Poof special is that his toddler age can cause chaos as fairy babies can’t fully control their magic. This often leads to trouble for Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda. Poof is also the last fairy baby to be born in 10.000 years, as his father, Cosmo, was the reason fairies could no longer have babies due to accidentally causing natural disasters such as casting a lightning strike on Jorgen von Strangle.

Fairly Oddparents Heavily Hinting Poof

In the latest episode, Lost and Founder’s Day drops a few hints on Poof making his appearance. The episode starts with Mr. Guzman explaining the Founder’s Day hat he won many years ago, making Cosmo and Wanda’s new godchild, Hazel, obsessed with how to win one. In the next scene, Hazel wonders aloud what the hat could look like and briefly mentions it could be decorated with periwinkle, a flower that can grow in shades of blue, red, and purple.

Then, at the festival, Hazel’s parents wonder if their cleverly disguised neighbors Cosmo and Wanda have a child. They hadn’t seen Poof in a while and almost gave their immortality secret away. Cosmo later gets emotional about not seeing his son after the disappointing reveal of Dale Dimmadale’s statue. The statue revealed Dale kissing his lucky boots instead of standing side-by-side with Dev.

Dev’s Most Miserable Day

What led Poof to his return was Dev showing signs of misery and loneliness. In the rules of Fairly Oddparent, or Da Rules, for a fairy to be granted to a godparent, they must express that they are miserable.

In a previous episode, New Dev-elopment, they grew closer during Mr. Guzman’s Dimmadelphia treasure hunt. Hazel learns how harsh Dev’s father, Dale, is to him as he becomes embarrassed by his rich lifestyle and obsessed with making money like his grandfather, Doug Dimmadome. As a sign of how close the classmates are, Dev finally calls Hazel by her name instead of the mean nicknames she was given when she moved into Dimmadelphia in the first episode.

Lost and Founder’s Day was briefly mentioned by Dale as if the writers of the show planned for Dev to have a godparent. He gave the children of Dimmadelphia Dimlets (interactive wrist bracelets) nerve shocks to know the children’s thoughts, selling them what they wanted through the festival. This drastically backfired, as Hazel granted wishes to children who weren’t having a great day.

Dev tried to help Hazel after Dale tried to trace her as a joyful anomaly for her large hat. After accidentally calling her Anomaly, she gives Hazel conflicting feelings and calls Dev manipulative after she, Cosmo, and Wanda stop Dale’s founder’s statutes.

It’s Peri Now

When Poof appears at the end of the episode, he’s a grown adult wearing suspended pants and a purple dress shirt, and his hair is a mixture of Cosmo and Wanda’s hair. His wand reminds the audience about his magic rattle, which is exchanged for a showman’s cane. Poof’s voice is from the amazing Eric Bauza, who’s known as the Modern-Day Bugs Bunny. In the original Fairly Oddparents series, he voiced Poof’s anti-self, Foop.

What shocked viewers was Poof’s name change, as he told Dev he changed his name to Peri, like Periwinkle. On the same day of his announced return, Fairly Oddparents A New Wish producer Ashleigh Crystal Hairston stated her answer on Twitter (now X) for the reasoning: “The name Poof is a slur in many countries.”
