Ezra Miller has been through a lot. By a lot, we mean allegations, investigations, charges, and a few style changes. After starring in the 2023 cinematic version of The Flash, they kind of went off the radar. They moved away and likely did some soul searching. Miller went to the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2025 as a guest of director Lynne Ramsay.

To say there were complications filming The Flash would be an understatement. Miller was attached to star in the film in 2016 after appearing as the Flash in the movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. This particular movie would be a standalone version, unrelated to the Grant Gustin vehicle – the CW’s version of The Flash.
Besides multiple rewrites and changes of writers and directors, there was an accident in Glasgow, Scotland, while filming. They shut down part of the intersection on the set for a period of time. After dealing with pandemic protocols and other script changes, it looked as though the film was set for its post-production phase.
Ezra Miller’s String of Arrests
A series of incidents occurred in Hawaii in 2022, where police were called. Miller was arrested for a variety of infractions to include disorderly conduct, loitering, theft, harassment, and assault. Shortly after leaving Hawaii, they went to Vermont.
While in Vermont, Ezra Miller was no stranger to the law. There, Miller got in trouble with Stamford. VT authorities for a slew of crimes. In addition to the difficulties in Vermont, they had some issues with a Native American family, including grooming allegations against their young daughter, Tokata Iron Eyes. Also, Miller claimed they were a messiah.
The Flash release date was pushed back a number of times, due to Miller’s arrests and behavior. Miller later stated:
Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.

Soon after The Flash was released, Miller decided to take a step back to work on their mental health. May 2025 at the Cannes Film Festival. Miller appeared supporting their friend, Lynne Ramsey. Miller admits it was a little tough to attend such a large and highly publicized event.
I didn’t necessarily want to go to Cannes, I had a bit of a hard time. That’s a tough re-entry point.
Either way, Ezra is considering a return to the showbiz industry. However one feels about them, they were nominated for multiple awards and did stellar work in portraying characters like Kevin in We Need to Talk About Kevin, and as Patrick in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. How does Ezra feel? They’re cautiously optimistic. We just hope it’s not a “flash in the pan.”
