South Korean studio Pixelity released the first official trailer for Evangelion: Cross Reflections, the opening chapter of a planned XR game trilogy set in the Evangelion world. The trailer arrived on the game’s official X account, showing how the project reimagines Hideaki Anno’s sci-fi classic as an immersive, first-person experience.
Pixelity began streaming a teaser on Sept. 29 at a San Francisco hands-on preview event, according to Anime News Network. The game is scheduled to launch in 2027 after slipping from an original 2026 target.
What The Evangelion Cross Reflections Trailer Shows
The footage centers on an original character whose goal is to become an Evangelion pilot, a framing that immerses players in the Evangelion world. Reactions on the game’s X account highlighted the blend of everyday NERV life with combat, with one user writing, “I like how we’re doing daily Shinji activities and not getting in the robot, 10/10 immersion,” according to CBR.
Misato Katsuragi also appears in the trailer, signaling that familiar NERV staff will share screen time with new original characters, including a roster of NERV trainees introduced specifically for this story. CBR noted another fan reaction calling the VR angle a fresh reason to dust off a headset.
Release Date, Platforms And Creative Team
Pixelity is developing Evangelion: Cross Reflections as an action-adventure XR title, with the first entry covering the opening 11 episodes of the original 1995 television anime. The full trilogy tells an original story set across all 26 episodes of the source series, according to Anime News Network.
Players will take on quests and battles tied to the anime’s timeline, with co-op play alongside established series characters built into the experience. The game was delayed from a 2026 target to 2027.
Why Fans Care
Neon Genesis Evangelion has remained a touchstone of anime since its 1995 broadcast. Netflix began streaming the series globally in June 2019. Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara revisited the story with the Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy, which concluded with Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, opening in Japan in March 2021 and ranking No. 1 in its first weekend. A revised cut, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01, opened in Japan in June 2021.
Cross Reflections represents the franchise’s first major push into XR gaming, a format that lets Pixelity put players directly inside Shinji Ikari’s shoes rather than retelling the anime passively. A VR-focused account quoted by CBR described the teaser as evidence of “Pixelity’s intent and ambition to offer an immersive cinematic experience worthy of your attention.”
What’s Next
Pixelity will give fans another hands-on look at Evangelion: Cross Reflections during an event in Frankfurt, Germany, on Oct. 13, with applications for that demo open now, according to CBR. The developer has not detailed a specific 2027 release window beyond the year itself.
