ESPN Jeopardy! Renewed, Opens Door to Fans for $300K

ESPN Jeopardy! is coming back for season two, and this time regular fans can compete for a $300,000 prize instead of celebrities.

Trivia buffs, get your buzzer fingers ready. ESPN Jeopardy! is officially coming back for a second season, and unlike its celebrity-stacked debut, this time it’s open to everyday fans chasing a $300,000 prize.

Host Joe Buck announced the renewal during Monday Night Football on September 28, as the Philadelphia Eagles took on the Chicago Bears, according to Just Jared. It’s a fitting stage for the news, since ESPN Jeopardy! blends the network’s sports audience with the beloved quiz show format Ken Jennings has helmed on the flagship series.

ESPN Jeopardy! From Celebrities to Civilians

Season one, which debuted on Disney+ and Hulu in July 2026, leaned heavily on star power. Jon Hamm, Adam Pally, and Hannah Storm were among the celebrity competitors who played for charity, ultimately helping raise $500,000 for good causes.

Season two flips that script entirely. Instead of famous faces, the show is turning the spotlight over to fans. Anyone hoping to land a seat behind the podium will need to meet a few basic requirements and prove they’ve got the trivia chops to back it up.

How Fans Can Apply

Eligibility is straightforward but limited geographically. Applicants must be US or Canadian residents aged 18 or older. From there, hopefuls need to take the Jeopardy! test through a MyJeopardy! account, the same screening process longtime fans of the flagship show will recognize.

Landing a spot won’t be easy, but the payoff is significant. A $300,000 prize is on the line for whoever comes out on top in season two, a notable jump in stakes compared to the charity-driven format of season one.

Why This Matters for the Jeopardy! Brand

The pivot from celebrities to civilians signals something bigger than just a scheduling tweak. It suggests ESPN and Disney see real staying power in expanding the Jeopardy! universe beyond its long-running flagship series, which is currently in its 43rd season under Ken Jennings.

Pairing trivia competition with ESPN’s built-in sports audience already worked well enough to earn a renewal after just one season. Opening the format to fans could widen that appeal even further, tapping into viewers who want to see themselves in the contestant chair rather than just watching familiar faces play for charity.

Season one episodes remain available for streaming on Disney+, Hulu, and the ESPN app for anyone looking to study the competition or just catch up before season two arrives.

What’s Still Unknown

ESPN hasn’t announced a premiere date for season two yet, nor has it confirmed how many episodes the new season will run. It’s also unclear whether celebrity competitors will make any appearances alongside the civilian fans, or whether that format shifts entirely to a separate spinoff down the line.

For now, the application process through MyJeopardy! is the first concrete step for anyone hoping to turn trivia knowledge into a shot at six figures.
