Taylor Swift has done the impossible again in a career that defies explanation. The multi-talented artist wrapped up her Eras Tour on December 8. The extravaganza played 149 dates on five continents around the world.
Taylor played to sold-out enthusiastic crowds of “Swifties” every night, a schedule that would have worn out most performers. The tour started in March 2023 with two shows in Glendale, Arizona, and ended Sunday in Vancouver, Canada. The only question was how much money did the tour bring in.
Taylor Breaks Another Record
According to The New York Times, Swift’s tour sold $2,077,618,725 in tickets. The outlet added that the $2 billion figure is double the gross ticket sales of any other concert tour in history and an unbelievable feat in the international concert business. Taylor Swift’s touring company confirmed the amount.
In terms of people in the seats, the number of attendees at her concerts is a mind-blowing figure. A total of 10,168,008 people attended her concerts. This computes to over $200 for every ticket purchased. The industry average is just over $13o per ticket. The largest single-night crowd on the tour was on Feb. 16, 2024, in Melbourne, Australia, with 96,006 Swifties in attendance.
Tour Produced Many BackStories
With the amount of activity and money involved in this tour, there were bound to be many backstories related to it. Probably everyone’s favorite started in Kansas City, MO, when a media-captured flirtation between Swift and star tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce blossomed into the romance of the year. The media highlight of this union occurred at Super Bowl LVIII in February when Swift and Kelce shared an on-the-field kiss after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
This triggered a paranoid, dark response from the Trump camp, falsely claiming that this relationship was a stunt to help increase the voter turnout for President Biden. This, like most other protestations of that group, was a fabrication, as evidenced by the continuing romance between the two. To her credit, Taylor took the high road, and instead of helping to create a media circus, she posted an election-related message on her Instagram page that 337,826 people visited. This post directed them to their state’s voter registration site.
These numbers are only a part of the overall revenue generated from this tour. That total does not include merchandise sales at the concert sites, the three-hour concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” which was released in October 2023, and the tour book, which was released last month in Target stores.
Goodwill and Generosity
On the tour’s final night, Swift thanked her fans for supporting her and creating a community with her. She said:
