Oscars 2026: Ludwig Göransson wins ‘Best Original Score’ for ‘Sinners’
The Oscar for best original score went to Ludwig Göransson. He was one of the record 16 Oscar nominees for the critically acclaimed movie. Göransson did a great job. Who would have thought that a vampire movie would have so much blues music?
While Göransson won the Oscar for Best Original Score for “Sinners,” the other nominees were “One Battle After Another’s,” Jonny Greenwood, “Frankenstein‘s” Alexandre Desplat, “Hamnet‘s” Max Richter, and “Bugonia‘s” Jerskin Fendrix. There is no doubt that the score for “Sinners” was ingenious. Do you think “Sinners” had the best music of any movie this year?
Best Original Score for “Sinners”

This Oscar was awarded to an ingenious movie. “Sinners” accomplished a rare feat. It was both an awards season darling, with 16 nominations in 2026, a record, but it was a commercial smash hit and a cultural phenomenon. That was impressive because at its core, it’s a horror movie. This is a genre that has not regularly received all that much attention from the Academy.
That said, the combination of writer, producer, and director Ryan Coogler’s vision, the music of Göransson, and the performances of the cast elevated it to greatness, and it is another trophy in the bag for the most-nominated movie in Oscars history. It is fair to wonder how many times the movie would win tonight.
Highly Decorated
Göransson is highly decorated. Coogler did a good job picking him to write the score of the movie. It is his third Oscar win and fifth nomination. He has been nominated in the past for Best Original Song category for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s” “Lift Me Up” and “Sinners'” “I Lied to You,” and the best score from that movie. He was also nominated for best score for the movie “Oppenheimer.” He is so accomplished that the award was never in much doubt.
Parting Shots
The score of a movie is an underrated part of it. A strong aspect of the movie “Sinners” is that it had such a great score. Göransson is a highly decorated professional. It is good that he won, and Coogler is to be congratulated for picking such a good musician to do the score.
