‘Disavowed’ cast adds 3 exciting stars to Apple TV thriller

James Marsden and Sterling K. Brown in Paradise (2025); Marsden now leads the Disavowed cast

Apple TV’s “Disavowed” is adding three more faces. Daniel Zovatto, Mia Tharia and Sonita Henry have joined the Disavowed cast, Deadline reported.

Emmy and Golden Globe nominee James Marsden stars in and executive produces the action thriller, which is based on an original idea by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Marsden, whose Emmy nominations came for “Jury Duty” and Hulu’s “Paradise,” anchors the Disavowed cast as a spy who suddenly finds himself on the outside.

The show’s premise

Marsden plays Brad Griffin, a celebrated CIA case officer who gets fired in the middle of a worldwide hunt for the assassin who killed one of his colleagues. Cut loose from the intelligence world, Griffin sets his sights on the $15 million federal bounty on the killer’s head.

The three newcomers join a Disavowed cast that already includes Norman Reedus, Sylvia Hoeks, Bokeem Woodbine and Noma Dumezweni.

Meet the new Disavowed cast members

Zovatto’s credits include HBO Max’s “Station Eleven” and Netflix’s “Woman of the Hour.” He has worked with Russell Crowe twice, first in “The Pope’s Exorcist” and again in the upcoming action drama “The Last Druid,” which also stars Rose Leslie and Drew McIntyre. His other TV work includes “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” and his film “Basics of Philosophy” recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

Tharia, whose screen career began at 17 with the BBC’s “Phoenix Rise” in 2023, has a big film on deck: the Taika Waititi-directed adaptation of “Klara and the Sun.” Her credits also include “September Says,” BBC One’s “The Listeners” and the title role in Sophie Heldmann’s period drama “The Education of Jane Cumming,” with Fiona Shaw, Clare Dunne and Flora Nicholson.

Henry is already part of the Apple TV family thanks to “Silo.” She has also appeared in Hulu’s “Black Cake” and the BBC’s “Wild Cherry,” and she’s set to appear in DC Studios’ “Clayface” and an untitled Jimmy White biopic.

Behind the scenes

Apple Studios is behind the series. Marcum and Holloway executive produce with Tom Spezialy, Michelle MacLaren, Rebecca Hobbs and Marsden. Blue Marble Pictures, the company behind “Pachinko,” produces, and its Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity also serve as executive producers.

MacLaren, whose directing credits include “Breaking Bad” and “The Morning Show,” will helm the first two episodes. She and Hobbs are executive producing through MacLaren’s overall deal with Apple TV.

Apple TV hasn’t announced a premiere date for “Disavowed,” and details about who the new Disavowed cast members will play are being kept under wraps.
