Scott Snyder and Jock’s limited Batman variant debuts Oct. 1

Scott Snyder is making his debut as a cover artist on Absolute Batman with an extremely limited Batman variant cover for issue #25, dropping this Thursday. The cover—Snyder’s initial sketch colored by artist Jock—will be available for pre-order at noon ET on Thursday, Oct. 1, on MarkBrooksArt.com.

Members of Brooks’ Brigade will get early access before the general pre-order begins.

The cover and the issue

Snyder’s artwork, which he teased on social media before the official announcement, features a disturbing take on the Absolute interpretation of The Joker—complete with rows of teeth. Jock’s coloring elevates the sketch into something collectors will chase.

The variant is tied to Absolute Batman #25, which features a major fight between Batman and The Joker. This issue marks the last new Absolute Batman comic scheduled for 2026, though an Ark-M special and a possible second Annual are planned to hold readers over until the series returns in 2027.

A crowded variant lineup

Snyder joins a roster of cover artists contributing variants for the milestone issue. Mark Brooks, J. Scott Campbell, Greg Capullo, Clay Mann and others have also designed covers. Fan-favorite artist Dexter Soy even shared a design he says was rejected by DC Comics for being “too edgy… too violent.”

Brooks, who has designed some of the most popular covers in the Absolute Batman line, will step away from the book after issue #25 to focus on other assignments.
