Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Unveils 2026 Nominees: See the Complete List

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Every year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame drops its nominee list and usually the internet collectively loses its mind. 2026 is no different. On February 25, the Rock Hall unveiled 17 nominees for the Class of 2026 — well, technically 18 artists — and the range is wide enough to spark arguments at every corner of the music world.

Mixed Genres Are Up This Year

From hip-hop heavyweights to Britpop legends to a Colombian pop icon who started recording as a teenager, this year’s ballot is one of the most genre-spanning in recent memory. Whether you think that’s a bold move or a sign that the “rock” in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially left the building, one thing is certain: the conversation is gonna be loud.

Who Made the 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominee List

Here’s the full list of artists up for induction:

  • The Black Crowes
  • Jeff Buckley
  • Mariah Carey
  • Phil Collins (solo)
  • Melissa Etheridge
  • Lauryn Hill
  • Billy Idol
  • INXS
  • Iron Maiden
  • Joy Division/New Order
  • New Edition
  • Oasis
  • P!NK
  • Sade
  • Shakira
  • Luther Vandross
  • Wu-Tang Clan

That’s a lot of ground to cover. Blues-rock, post-punk, R&B, hip-hop, heavy metal, and pop — alllll on the same ballot. The Rock Hall has never been shy about casting a wide net, and 2026 is proof they’re not slowing down.

First-Time Nominees Who Are Long Overdue

Ten of the 17 nominees are appearing on the Rock Hall ballot for the very first time. Several of them have a strong case for why they should have been here sooner.

Wu-Tang Clan dropped Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993 and fundamentally changed what hip-hop could sound like, feel like, and mean culturally. That album didn’t just chart – it built a mythology. If any hip-hop act belongs in the Rock Hall, it’s these guys.

Lauryn Hill released The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998, one of the most critically acclaimed albums of its era, and walked away with the Grammy for Album of the Year. Her influence on R&B, neo-soul, and hip-hop is huge. A first-time nominee in 2026 feels almost embarrassingly late.

Shakira is a fascinating addition. While she broke internationally in the late ’90s, her first recording actually dates back to 1991 — making her technically eligible, and making her inclusion feel like a nod to the Hall’s increasingly global perspective.

P!NK is the freshest name on the ballot as a first-time nominee, with her debut arriving in 2000. She’s built a career on raw honesty and powerhouse live performances that most artists can only dream of.

Jeff Buckley, whose sole studio album Grace (1994) remains one of the most beloved records ever recorded, finally gets his shot — a deeply deserved one.

Rounding out the first-timers are Melissa Etheridge, New Edition, Luther Vandross, INXS, and Phil Collins as a solo artist. Collins is already a Rock Hall inductee through his band Genesis, so a solo induction would place him in a very exclusive club — just the 29th artist to earn that distinction twice.

The Artists Who’ve Been Here Before

Not everyone on the 2026 ballot is a newcomer to this process. Seven nominees are returning after previous bids, and some of them are starting to feel the pressure of repeat nominations without the payoff.

Mariah Carey, Iron Maiden, and Joy Division/New Order are all on their third nomination. Oasis is also back for the third time. This is fitting, given that their long-awaited reunion tour dominated 2025. If there was ever a moment for the Gallagher brothers to get their Hall of Fame moment, it’s now.

The Black Crowes and Billy Idol are back for their second consecutive year, while Sade returns after a 2024 nomination. The fact that Sade has been nominated before and still isn’t inducted needs to be changed.

What Happens Next for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2026?

The final class will be decided by a voting panel of more than 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. Fan votes are also part of the equation; if you have strong feelings (and yeah, you probably do), the fan vote is open now at the Rock Hall’s official site.

The 2026 inductees will be announced in April, with the induction ceremony scheduled for fall. Between now and then, expect passionate debates, deep dives into discographies, and plenty of people asking why their favorite artist still hasn’t made the Hall of Fame cut yet.
