‘Be By You’ – Luke Combs’ New Single Is A Painfully Standard Love Song

“Be By You” is a new single by country artist Luke Combs. It is part of his upcoming album, “The Way I Am,” which is due out on March 20th. So, does “Be By You” give a good taste of the album? Does “Be By You” stimulate excitement in buying the album, or is it just another country track that gets lost in the masses? Let’s see what “Be By You” has to offer.

Luke Combs released the lyric video of “Be By You” on YouTube a few days ago. The song features a steady rhythm of soulful guitar music, letting the listener know that this song is firmly rooted in the country genre and won’t be experimenting. The lyrics are, of course, singing about how wonderful a lover is, gushing about how the singer can’t stand being without her, and they won’t win any awards for originality.

In fact, the whole song won’t win any awards for originality. It doesn’t do anything to stand out among the hundreds of other country songs that sing about lovers. Sometimes the lyrics do have some nice imagery such as, “wake up next to you with no makeup, baby, nothin’ beats that view,” which gives the image of a couple in bed, enjoying a lazy morning, but some of the other lyrics are incredibly cliché. For example, “where you are is where I belong” sounds like a compliment we’ve heard in a thousand other country songs. If “Be By You” is supposed to promote the album, it should do more to stand out among the crowded world of country music.

There are Also Some Weird Lyrics

The first lyric in the song is, “kinda like an old jon boat on some largemouth water,” which, I guess, is supposed to compare the singer’s love to a boat’s attachment to the water, but the simile doesn’t exactly work since a boat isn’t attracted to the water. Water doesn’t draw a boat towards it; a boat simply floats on top of it, and a boat can also be removed from the water. Still, a boat doesn’t function very well without the water, so maybe that’s what the song is going for, but it still sounds weird.

However, there’s another lyric that really has the listener wondering how it’s supposed to be romantic. That lyric is, “I’m stuck to you like glue on your hip like a pistol.” It starts off with the painfully cliché simile, “stuck to you like glue,” and then proceeds to compare the singer to a pistol, something that brings violent imagery to mind. Are we supposed to be suspicious of the singer? Probably not, since the rest of the song is all about romance, but it feels out of place in such a down-to-earth love song.

Does This Song Do a Good Job Promoting the Album?

Does “Be By You” do a good job promoting Combs’ upcoming album? I fully admit that while I used to be really into country music, my taste has now moved towards pop music and artists like Lady Gaga, but even back when I was into country music, I wouldn’t think this song was anything special. Despite some weird lyrics, “Be By You” is a very standard love song, and if you’re not already a Combs fan, it’s not likely to get you interested in the album. Perhaps Combs should have picked a different song to promote the album. Combs’ album “The Way I Am” comes out on March 20th.
