5 Terrible Date Movies

It’s Valentine’s Day, so you and your lover might be interested in some date movies. So what are the best date movies you can watch? Well, there are plenty of great date movies, but some of them are better than others. In fact, there are some date movies that might lead to a lousy time. Here are five of the worst date movies that you should only watch on Valentine’s Day if you want to watch something cringy.

5 Terrible Date Movies

1. “Twilight”

The “Twilight” books and movies are infamous for setting feminism back fifty years and encouraging a generation of teenage girls to want emotionally abusive boyfriends. Even setting all that aside, the movie is just plain bad. Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as Edward give incredibly wooden performances and have zero chemistry. The visual effects looked twenty years out of date even when the movie first came out, but you and your date might get a laugh out of them. This is the pinnacle of bad date movies.

2. “Fifty Shades of Grey”

It’s fitting to put this together with “Twilight,” since “Fifty Shades of Grey” began life as a “Twilight” fanfiction. The “Twilight” series is infamous for giving vampires a bad name, and the “Fifty Shades” series is infamous for giving the BDSM lifestyle a bad name. It portrays the BDSM lifestyle as glorifying abuse, to say nothing of how, like Bella and Edward before them, Ana and Christian have no chemistry.

3. “Grease”

Yes, “Grease” is supposed to be a classic musical, and indeed, the songs are amazing toe-tappers. However, this movie makes the list mainly because of the ending. It gives off the message that you should change everything about you in order to fit in and get the guy. Don’t be true to who you are; become like everyone else. You and your date might be better off listening to the soundtrack instead of watching the movie.

4. “Moulin Rouge!”

It might have been nominated for multiple Oscars, and it might have some super impressive musical numbers, but “Moulin Rouge!” still fails as a love story. It ticks off every cliche in the book, to the point where it just gets annoying. Moreover, Christian and Satine probably could have easily avoided some trouble if they hadn’t been stupid. If you’re supposed to keep your romance a secret, then don’t start kissing in spots where people can easily spot you. It can be hard to root for a stupid couple.

5. “The Room”

If you and your date like unbelievably bad date movies, Tommy Wiseau’s infamous movie features horrendous acting, melodramatic storytelling, lame writing, and pretty much anything else that can go wrong. It’s kind of fascinating to see how incredibly bad a movie can be. However, it’s one of the most famous “so bad it’s good” movies in the modern era, and it’s gained a cult following because of how terrible it is. If you and your date want to have a good laugh at how terrible this movie is, this would be a solid choice to watch. Otherwise, watch something else.

There are Plenty of Good Date Movies Out There

There are lots of great date movies for Valentine’s Day, so you don’t have to use up your Valentine’s Day watching a dud. However, sometimes you might have fun watching something bad. These movies may be terrible date movies, but if you and your date are in the mood for something less-than-stellar, you might get some enjoyment out of one of these movies. However, if you’re in the mood for a good romance, you’re better off seeking out some other date movies besides these.
