Bartlett told the Daily Mail in an interview on May 18 that there were no prior arrangements or rules for their open marriage.

“It’s funny, the press will pick up on something and make more of it than it was,’ she said. ‘There was never any discussion as to what we were going to do, but in 75 years, the two of you together, you know, it would be abnormal if you… weren’t attracted occasionally to other people,’ she said.

The “St. Elsewhere” star continued,

“It was non-spoken. Bill and I never sit down and make rules. We never sit down and talk about these things. We just don’t. We just live our lives. And if he’s away for a year, he’s away for a year. Our lives just went on, but we never got unhinged…. We never got unhinged, but our lives did go in different directions occasionally.”

To clarify, the relationship was not open because there was no agreement between both parties that sleeping with someone else is okay. A combination of Bartlett marrying William Daniels at 18 years old, his attitude, and her status as a rising Hollywood starlet introduced infidelity into their relationship.

But judging by the smiles on both Daniels, who is 99, and his wife, Bartlett, age 96, their past infidelities brought them closer and strengthened their love. The “Boy Meets World” stars met in college, married in 1951, adopted two sons after the loss of their infant son, and worked together as a married couple on several projects.
