Former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day said Wednesday, Sept. 30, that the prison system is “broken” and that Sean “Diddy” Combs “will come back a worse criminal,” reacting to an NBC News report on his conditions at a federal prison in New Jersey, Billboard reported. The Aubrey O’Day Diddy comments came in a post on X.

Combs is serving a 50-month sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington County, N.J. NBC News journalist Chloe Melas promoted the report on X, saying the outlet had obtained video of Combs using a cellphone behind bars, according to Billboard.

What the Aubrey O’Day Diddy post said

O’Day quote-posted Melas’ message, adding a new chapter to the long Aubrey O’Day Diddy saga. “Thank you, Chloe for doing this investigation,” she wrote. “People should understand the difference between rehabilitation and a sh–ty vacation. The system is broken — this man will come back a worse criminal.”

Her point was that prison is supposed to rehabilitate, and she argued that the treatment described in the report does the opposite.

What the NBC News report alleged

NBC News based its report on four men who were housed in the same unit as Combs at the low-security prison, Billboard reported. Those sources described an unusually comfortable life for the music mogul. They alleged that other inmates cooked, cleaned and did laundry for him and even gave him Chinese-style massages.

NBC News also reviewed photos and videos that allegedly show Combs with a contraband cellphone. Sources told the network he had access to alcohol and other banned items. The allegations have not been proven.

A spokesperson for Combs criticized the ongoing focus on his life in prison as excessive and said the only real news is that he “continues to serve his sentence” while his appeal is pending, per Billboard. A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson would not discuss Combs’ conditions specifically but said contraband is a continuing problem across federal prisons.

Combs’ conviction and sentence

A jury in 2025 convicted Combs on two counts of transporting people across state lines for prostitution and acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. He was sentenced to 50 months and reported to Fort Dix in October 2025, Billboard reported. Combs has appealed, and his spokesperson’s statement cited by Billboard indicates that the appeal has not yet been decided. The Aubrey O’Day Diddy history

The Aubrey O’Day Diddy conflict dates back about two decades. O’Day joined Danity Kane after Combs formed the group on his MTV reality series “Making the Band.” The group’s first two albums, “Danity Kane” in 2006 and “Welcome to the Dollhouse” in 2008, both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. O’Day has spoken out about Combs repeatedly; after his sentencing last year, she warned young musicians about the industry.

In the Netflix docuseries “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” released in December 2025, O’Day said Combs made it clear she was “the looker” and read aloud a sexually explicit email she said he sent her, Variety reported. She said she was fired about six months later and “absolutely felt” it was for “not participating sexually,” though she also said she later learned Combs was recording a separate project with bandmate Dawn Richard.

Combs’ legal counsel told Variety it would not comment on individual claims in the docuseries, calling the project “a one-sided narrative” and saying some of the stories featured are “simply not true.”
