Warrior Princess & Barbaric King Anime Sets April 9 Premiere With New Trailer and Cast Reveal
The wait is almost over. “The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King” is officially locked in for an April 9, 2026, premiere, and a brand-new trailer just dropped to celebrate. Whether you’ve been following this one since the manga days or you’re just now learning that a Warrior Princess getting proposed to by the man who just defeated her is, somehow, a romance setup, now is a great time to get caught up.
What Is “The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King” About?
For anyone unfamiliar, here’s the pitch: Serafina de Lavillant is the strongest female knight in the West. She gets sent east to take down some barbaric tribes, the mission goes spectacularly sideways, and she ends up captured. Expecting torture or death, she asks to be executed. Instead, the tribe leader asks for her hand in marriage.
Yes, really.
The manga, written and illustrated by Noriaki Kotoba, has been serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine since January 2021. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English print version under the title “The Barbarian’s Bride,” while K Manga handles the digital release. Ten volumes are out in Japan as of October 2025, so there’s plenty of source material for the anime to pull from.
The Warrior Princess story lands squarely in fantasy romance territory, but the premise has a bit more going on than most. The whole “are these people actually barbarians, or were we wrong about them all along?” angle gives it some narrative depth that goes beyond the typical will-they-won’t-they structure.
New Trailer, New Cast, New Everything

The second main trailer, released Jan. 16, 2026, previews two confirmed theme songs alongside a fresh key visual and 10 newly announced cast members. Mayu Maeshima performs the opening theme, “BEAUTIFUL,” and sajou no hana handles the ending with “Shirubekikoto.” Both artists bring solid credentials, so the soundtrack is already looking strong.
The expanded voice cast joining the series includes Hiroshi Kamiya as Sidius, Miyu Tomita as Kimaki, and Hisako Kanemoto as Kofa, among others. Sayumi Suzushiro leads as Serafina de Lavillant, with Satoshi Inomata voicing Veor. Hiroshi Kamiya’s inclusion alone should get a few people clicking play on episode one.
Who Is Making the Anime?

Takayuki Tanaka, known for his work as director on episodes of “Synduality Noir,” is directing the series at studio Jumondo. Miya Asakawa handles series composition, and Masayoshi Kikuchi, who worked on “The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World,” serves as main character designer. Music comes from Alisa Okehazama, composer on “The Apothecary Diaries,” which is a genuinely impressive credit to have on your resume.
The production team has co-chief animation directors spanning multiple experienced contributors, including Mayumi Fujita and Gen Hatakeyama, both veterans of “Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer.” That’s not a bad lineup at all.
Where Can You Watch It?

Crunchyroll is streaming “The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King” as it airs in Japan, excluding Japan and mainland China from the worldwide availability. The broadcast kicks off April 9, 2026, at 11:30 p.m. JST on AT-X, followed by Tokyo MX, BS NTV, Kansai TV, and WOWOW.
It’s worth noting the series was originally slated to premiere in October 2025 before getting pushed to April 2026. A delay is never ideal, but given the production talent attached, there’s reason to hope the extra time was put to good use. The Warrior Princess deserves a proper debut, and based on the new trailer, the visuals are shaping up nicely.
Spring 2026 is shaping up to be a stacked season, and “The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King” is one of the more interesting titles on the slate.
