Elle Fanning Teams Up with Predator in First Teaser for ‘Predator: Badlands’

Elle Fanning

Predator: Badlands teaser has just dropped! The director of the previous movie, Prey, and the upcoming Predator: Killer of Killers, Dan Trachtenberg, returns to bring us action and adventure with new characters and a new style to follow. Can this movie live up to the hype of the last movie?

The Story of a Warrior

This movie is about a younger Predator who has been shunned from his clan. He comes to find an ally in an android played by Elle Fanning, and they both set out on an adventure through treacherous and unknown lands in search of the ultimate adversary.  This will continue this director’s trend of young women being the main point of view of this series.

This movie will keep up the series tradition of telling an anthology of stories rather than focusing on one long mainline story, which is what the series tried to do with the movie, The Predator. That movie itself tried to set up a continuous story line, which didn’t work out the way director Shane Black wanted it to.

Where Will the Focus Be?

While Prey was focused on the hunt more or less, this will seem to focus on teamwork more than anything. The last time we saw a team-up with a Predator was in Predators, back in 2010. I am hoping we get more of a point of view from the Predator’s side rather than the human point of view, and maybe we see exactly how they live as a society. We’ve always got glimpses of the predator society and how they live, notably in Predator 2 when Lt.

Mike Harrigan, played by Danny Glover, went onto a spaceship, and Alien versus Predator, where we saw young predators sent off to face Xenomorphs to prove they were ready for adulthood. Its always been sort of a mystery of how these creatures lived and their culture so getting a look into how the live would be interesting.

Out of This World Designs

The design of the predator favors a samurai, in a way that reminds me of a warrior who can swiftly kill. The design of the planet is dangerous, with every turn looking like it’s something that could take you out within a heartbeat. Even the Fanning’s character, Thia, an android made by  Weyland-Yutani, looks futuristic, which makes me question what time period this movie exists within the mainline of stories?

Is this set around the time of maybe the first Alien movie or even Aliens, since we know those two universities collide, or is it just set on a distant planet that we’ve never even seen that has human beings on here? Where ever the setting it, it looks amazing and will look even better on the big screen when the film releases.

Could This Be a AVP Set Up?

My main question for the series of movies is whether this is setting up another Alien versus Predator film? With the introduction of Fanning’s character, it could be a possibility. The last two movies didn’t really do too well, and we’re bogged down by the rating of each film. Although both films have either an extended version or an unrated version of those movies, they still were not very good.

If this is setting up AVP film, then what they need to do is maybe bring some main characters from the other movies that have dealt with Predators or Xenomorphs. Maybe bring back the likes of Dutch, originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger or even maybe Rain and Andy played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson from Alien: Romulus, since the film seems to be set around that time period.

What do you guys think?  Are you looking forward to seeing the next installment of the series? Do you think this movie will do better than Predator: Killer of Killers? What about a possible Alien vs Predator movie being made?
