Today, another legend is gone as beloved actor and stunt performer Ed Gale, known for roles in ‘Howard the Duck’ and Chucky, passes away at the age of 61. Gale is best known for his roles in Howard the Duck and the Child’s Play film series and has appeared in movies like ‘Spaceballs’, ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou’, and ‘The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle’ feature film. Gale was someone who loved his career and the work he had done in the film industry, paving the way for other actors/stunt performers like himself.
Ed Gale: Start In Film
Gale got his start in the 1986 film, Howard the Duck, where he played Howard in a physical performance while actor Chip Zien played the voice of the character. From there, his next role would be the killer doll, Chucky, from the 1989 movie Child’s Play, while actor Brad Dourif voiced the terrifying doll. Gale would also work with actors like Matthew McConaughey and Gary Oldman in the movie Tiptoes in a supporting role as Uncle Bobby, he would also appear in minor roles in shows like ‘My Name is Earl’, ‘Friday the 13th: the Series’, ‘Weird Science’, ‘Family Matters’, ‘3rd Rock from the Sun’, ‘Sabrina, the Teenage Witch‘, ‘Just Shoot Me’, and more.
Life as a Stunt Man
Early in his career, Gale would do a good majority of his own stunts, like being run over, being in fight scenes, being tossed, being dropped, and also being thrown through a windshield. His most memorable stunt was from the movie Child’s Play, where he was set on fire, full body. Gale would do the same type of stunt later in his career in the movie Leprechaun 3, where he was not only in a full-body burn but also flying as well. This shows that Gale was willing to step up to the opportunity to not only perform but also take the risk to make sure his performance was a good one.
How He is Remembered
Kayse Gale, his niece and digital creator herself, left a statement on Facebook saying “It is with a heavy heart and a surprisingly light coffin (see what I did there?) that we announce the sudden passing of our uncle, Official: Ed Gale, Actor – retired, Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife.” She goes on to tell his story stating how he “hitched a ride to California with just 41 bucks on his pocket and never looked back” and how he lit up the Silver screen with a series of cult classics.
Ed Gale will continue to play his part for future generations of actors who want to do what he does. Remember an artist for what they brought into the world of acting, and they will live forever with us. Ed Gale will forever be with us and remembered as many of our favorite characters.
