Get ready for a frosty new mystery in Manhattan. In December 2025, Dynamite Entertainment is set to deliver a chilling and heart-pounding one-shot: Gargoyles Winter Special 2025. With creator Greg Weisman teaming up with veteran scribe Nate Cosby and artist George Kambadais, fans will be plunged into a cold case that threatens to shake the very foundations of the Gargoyles’ world.
A Winter Night, A Hidden Past
When the winter winds sweep over New York City, the holiday lights and falling snow of December only amplify the shadows lingering in Elisa Maza’s memory. In Dynamite Entertainment’s preview:
“But the month also reminds her of an unsolved mystery from her first year as a detective – a baffling break-in that featured odd clues, a stolen family heirloom, and vague descriptions of a lumbering “thing” that was seen only in the shadows. As she tells Goliath one icy winter night, the fact that she was never able to crack the case still gnaws at her, even after all these years.”
That unresolved crime haunts Elisa even now, and when Goliath (her gargoyle boyfriend) overhears snippets of the story, he can’t resist slipping into a trench coat to resurrect the investigation.
Broadway as Detective: Trench Coat, Fedora, and Unlikely Allies
Broadway’s transformation from stone guardian to amateur sleuth is a central draw of this special. Armed with an affinity for detective dramas and zero professional experience, he leads the charge into Elisa’s cold case. Alongside him are two unexpected assistants: Bronx, the steadfast gargoyle beast, and Lance, a bull terrier introduced in last year’s winter special. Their dynamic — equal parts comic relief, chaos, and heart — promises to be a highlight for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
The Stakes Behind the Snow
What begins as a quest to solve an old crime gradually reveals deeper consequences for the entire Gargoyles clan. This isn’t just Elisa’s past coming back to haunt her — the mystery has threads weaving through multiple characters. As Broadway, Bronx, and Lance dig deeper, revelations could alter relationships, loyalties, and future trajectories for the series.
Creative Team & Artistic Vision
Dynamic Entertainment has assembled a compelling lineup behind the scenes. Greg Weisman collaborates once more with Nate Cosby, while George Kambadais returns to helm the art. The 40-page special will also feature variant covers by Kambadais, Jae Lee, Roger Langridge, and Alessandro Ranaldi. Earthy tones, icy backdrops, and stark contrasts will all underscore the mood: festive yet foreboding.
Release & Expectations
Poised to hit comic shop shelves in December 2025, Gargoyles Winter Special 2025 carries both holiday promise and narrative weight. It’s a bold move by Dynamite Entertainment to layer a detective mystery atop the mythic lore of the Gargoyles universe — but one that could redefine where the franchise heads next. Fans should anticipate a blend of character drama, emotional resonance, and pulpy “whodunit” tropes wrapped in snowy Gotham nights.
Mark your calendars — December won’t be the same in Manhattan’s winter. As always, stay tuned to Total Apex Entertainment for all comic coverage!
