Dungeon Meshi Hints Ravenous Tasty Monsters For Season 2

Dungeon Meshi Season 2

On Jan. 4th, 2024, the beloved Yen Press manga, Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon in English) was adapted into a Netflix Original anime. Many readers of the manga fell in love with both the Japanese and English voice cast, the exaggerated animated expressions as the adventurers explored further into the Dark Mage Dungeon, and the food art is appetizing and scary to look at.

After the end of the first season, series director Yoshihiro Miyajima informs viewers that Season 2 is already in development, dropping a trailer on June 13th on Twitter (now X). The trailer’s end reveals Laios’ party facing Dark Mage Thistle with an army of monsters. What could this mean for next season?

The Climax Of Season 1

Previously, Laios, Marcille, and Chilchuck went on a mission to rescue Falin from the Red Dragon. She rescued Laios from being eaten and cast an escape spell on them to return to the surface. With no money to buy rations, Laios is determined for him and the party to eat monsters. They recruited monster cuisine chef Senshi who has been studying the Dungeon for 10 years.

After they retrieved info from the Orcs about the Red Dragon occupying the 4th floor, Laios’ party heads over there and defeated it, only to learn Falin was already dead. Determined to resurrect her, Marcille conducted illegal black magic instead of bringing her skeleton to the Ressurection Office. Now the party is dealing with the consequences of the Black Mage who transformed Falin into the beastly amalgamation, the Chimera. With their newest party, the cat ninja Izutsumi, Senshi must deal with her picky appetite.

Season 2 Trailer’s End Scene

Dungeon Meshi Season 2’s trailer revealed an ominous scene of Laios’ party receiving a deadly gaze from the Dark Mage. The scene contains many elements of what Dungeon Meshi anime viewers can expect. A rainstorm looms above what appears to be a massive dining table with a pot on top. There are numerous monsters including two previous monsters Laios’ party faced, the Red Dragon (right) and the Hyppogriff (winged beast on the left). Thanks to the world being inspired by Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), we can assume this dungeon floor belongs to a giant or an ogre.

The monsters surrounding the table are possibly either its pets or its ingredients. The hippogriff is sitting like a cat on what appears to be a dining chair, and a shark peeps out of a storage barrel. The Dark Mage himself is keeping their arms raised to the sky possibly preparing a black magic summoning. Viewers or readers of Dungeon Meshi know none of these monsters will be left alive as they are part of Senshi’s menu no matter how large they are.

Dungeon Meshi Season 2’s Cast

In the final episode of Dungeon Meshi Season 1, the cast has grown larger and the danger levels are soaring. Shuro the Samurai and the young knight Kabru have persuaded the High Elves to venture into the Black Mage’s Dungeon and Falin the Chimera. Namari will return as their Barbarian Blacksmith to keep their weapons sharpened and armor refurbished. Kabru appears to have malicious intentions knowing Marcille has broken the law using black magic and Laios is attempting to save his sister in her current form.

Shuro is fighting his emotions about whether to trust Laios to save Falin or to end her suffering the next time he encounters her. For the main party, Marcille will be studying how to reverse Falin’s hex giving Izutsumi high hopes she can break hers, too. For Laios, Thistle’s older brother, Delgal entrusted him to fulfill the Dungeon’s Prophecy as his Living Armor Sword, Kensuke holds the Lion’s crest. As stated, the person who wields that blade will become the next king.
