Whether you call him by his rapper name, Childish Gambino, or his actual name, Donald Glover, his talents in music and acting have paid off with a successful career. With his six studio albums and the four great seasons of his critically acclaimed television series, Atlanta, it’s no surprise that Glover has maintained his level of stardom.
When Glover entered the rap game, he began his career with the rap name Childish Gambino, which he received from a Wu-Tang name generator. From there, Donald Glover gained fans with his alternative rap music without shying away from creatively blending other musical styles into his song production.

If Glover is truly ready to retire his Childish Gambino name, then he should go out with a bang, and he’s putting his name-retiring plans into motion. On July 19th, Glover released his next album, Bando Stone & The New World, which is also the soundtrack for a film of the same name in which Glover stars.
At the BET Awards ceremony held on June 30th, Glover released the new trailer for the film alongside the official lead single for the album Lithonia. Regarding the song, Glover creates a soulful power-rock ballad that seems to be from the viewpoint of one of the film’s main characters, Cody Larae.
Alongside Glover, producers such as Max Martin, Ludwig Goransson, Micheal Uzowo, and Riley Mackin took part in the creation of Lithonia, with all five sharing writing credits. In the beginning, gospel-inspired keyboards drive the chorus and help Glover as he sings from two distinct perspectives, Cody Larae and himself, to properly convey each character’s cynicism.
The Unknown Premise of Donald Glover’s New Film
So, what exactly is Bando Stone & The New World about? Well, that’s a question that still awaits an answer, and even the song doesn’t provide clues. So far, the only information that has been released is that it’s full of hungry dinosaurs. As far as a cast, Glover plays the main character. Actress Jessica Allain from 2019’s comedy-drama film The Laundromat is also in the movie, as is Glover’s eldest son, Legend.
Fortunately, fans haven’t given up their hunt for what Bando Stone & The New Stone, both film and album, is about, and their relentless search may have found something. On the film’s Instagram page, a map of Manhattan, New York, was posted a day after the trailer dropped, which, as of now, doesn’t give much insight.
What We Do Know About Bando Stone & The New Stone
In contrast, some fans don’t believe the film exists as Bando Stone and The New Stone do not have an IMBD list. Likewise, the film’s screenwriter, Evi Wilder, has no previous film credits, which raises more doubts. Even the silence from the co-stars about the film has cast doubt on its existence, which could’ve been Glover’s plan all along.
Although little is known about the film, the trailer reveals Glover as Bando Stone, a mailman who was a singer. The story follows Stone traveling through a post-apocalyptic world where he’ll have to fight prehistoric monsters with the help of a woman and her young son. In addition to the humans and beasts, a strange anomaly is deleting things from existence worldwide.
Is it the End of Childish Gambino?
So, after finding so much success under Childish Gambino, why would Glover want to get rid of the moniker altogether now? During his performance at the Governor’s Ball, Glover hinted that he wanted to stay away from Childish Gambino as he didn’t feel there was anything innovative he could do with the character anymore.
However, Glover still hasn’t confirmed the retirement of the Childish Gambino persona or his music altogether. Either way, Glover should celebrate with his fans as he’s left behind an excellent discography with four albums, two EPs, and seven mixtapes in total. With that said, Glover’s new single, Lithonia, unveils the creative talents that Glover possesses.
