Whovian Overdrive- Doctor Who: Episodes 3 & 4 Recap

Doctor Who Episode 3 & 4 recap

We’re in overdrive as season 2 of Doctor Who continues without a hitch! This season, as we recap, The Doctor and his new companion are having some trouble getting back to Earth. And it seems that the device the doctor has created doesn’t seem to pinpoint exactly what year the Earth is placed. All of this seems to be surrounding Mrs. Flood, the old woman from the beginning of the first season who has been showing up every episode so far. Who is this woman, and how is the doctor in Belinda going to get home?

Doctor Who Episode 3: “The Well”

The Doctor and Belinda meet a bunch of soldiers on their way to investigate an unknown planet in Episode 3 of Doctor Who. They tag along, of course, and meet a young woman, a cook, who is the only survivor of her crew. She lets everyone know that things got crazy and everyone started to attack each other, but something about the woman’s story doesn’t make any sense. It’s when one of the soldiers steps behind the woman and gets flung back, and it’s killed, that things start to get weird.

A thing starts to get weirder and weirder, and The Doctor finds out that something about this planet, it was made of diamonds. For those who have been with Doctor Who since the 2005 series, you might remember that the 10th Doctor, David Tennant, had dealt with an entity on a planet called Midnight, which turns out to be the planet they are currently on. Last time, the entity tried to take the doctors’ form and almost succeeded if it wasn’t for one stewardess who sacrificed herself for the doctor. To make things worse, one of the soldiers is very skeptical, and if you’re in the Doctor Who universe and you’re skeptical, it never turns out too good for you.

The whole team is in danger and trying to free this young woman from the entity’s grip. When the woman is freed, sadly, some of the soldiers, including the skeptic, are killed by the unknown entity. They run for their lives back to where they came, but it somehow has attached itself to Belinda. It takes the senior officer of the soldiers to nearly kill Belinda and have the entity attach itself to her, and then sacrifice herself to get rid of the entity.

When everything is done, of course, the Doctor and Belinda end up flying off to their next destination in order to find their way back to Earth. Of course, a familiar face shows up, which gives us more questions about the woman known as Mrs. Flood.

Doctor Who Episode 4: Lucky Day

In this episode of Doctor Who, we finally catch up with Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. The last time we saw her was just before Christmas of 2024 in season one, and she was just meeting her birth mother. Now we see that she is having a hard time moving on, just like a lot of the companions, from the Doctor. She meets a man by the name of Conrad, who, at some point in his life, met the Doctor. Turns out Conrad met the doctor when he was a child on New Year’s Eve 2007.

Jump to 2024 Conrad sees the doctor and Ruby in the middle of an where both Conrad and Ruby were marked by something called a Shrieker, or as I call it, an alien dog thing. Conrad, just like many others, becomes so obsessed with the Doctor that he decides to start a podcast about the strange and weird things that happen on Earth.

He even goes as far as to get Ruby on the podcast herself. Turns out that a Shrieker was hunting him, and she makes sure to give him the antidote, but not before she is asked out by Conrad. Over time, Ruby comes to confide in Conrad, talking about the adventures she and the doctor have been on and how much she misses the doctor.

We also come to find out that Ruby is now working for UNIT, a shadow ops organization that defends Earth when the Doctor is not around, and that she has a pretty good relationship with Kate Stewart. On a night when Ruby is introduced to Conrad’s friends, things start to look good for Ruby until the village pub they are at is attacked by Shriekers. Turns out that Conrad never took the antidote, which put everyone in danger.

When UNIT gets there to help everyone, things turn when it’s revealed that Conrad set everything up to make UNIT look like a fake organization. This, of course, breaks Ruby’s heart and trust in Conrad, who has been lying to her since the beginning. The public, being what it is in the Whoniverse, somehow believes Conrad rather than remembering all the invasions that have happened on Earth. Things come to a head when Conrad infiltrates the UNIT headquarters and tries to live-stream the inside of the organization.

When Kate has had enough, she actually lets loose a Shrieker onto Conrad to show him how real and dangerous the universe really is. In the end, Conrad is taken into unit custody and put away into a prison cell, but not before the doctor has a word with him. The doctor seems to think that he is special, but for all the wrong reasons. After the Doctor leaves, Conrad is approached by a mysterious woman who looks like the old woman from season one, aka Mrs. Flood, aka the Governor.

Let’s Take A Sonic Reading

Both of these Doctor Who episodes work together back-to-back to bring some pretty intense moments. In one episode, we see how vulnerable the doctor can be to help somebody, even know he tries his best. And we also get to meet an old enemy, which still connects him to Tennant’s Doctor. It’s always nice to see an old enemy check in, especially when we still don’t know much about it.

In the other episode, we get a check-up on Ruby Sunday, and not only do we see how the doctor can affect a companion after he leaves him behind, but we also get to see how the doctor can affect someone’s life was just a flip or a touch of a coin. We also see some real heat in the character of Conrad, was sort of reflects the current state of our world now.

But what do you guys think? Did you enjoy last week’s and this week’s episodes of Doctor Who? Are you more intrigued now to see who Mrs. Flood is? My money is on The Master!! Tune into Doctor Who each week on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer.
