Tron Ares Continues Disneys Underrated Sci-fi Franchise

Tron Ares is joining one of the most exciting time of movie releases we have ever had, and things couldn’t be looking better for it. Over this last weekend at the D23 expo, Disney finally shared with us details about the next installment in the Tron legacy. The first installment of Tron was released in 1982 with graphics that would resemble early Pac-Man with people in it. However, for its time, they were cutting edge, and the heart of the story of physical adaptation of computer programs being alive and very much like us gives the film franchise a truly classic title status.

There is little argument that Disney has the keys of the Magic Kingdom to making movies. They have endeavored to expand those keys with some pretty miserable results. The savor for this problem has been Bob Iger’s triumphant return as Disney’s CEO. On his second time around, he admits the problem and promises to change.

Disney’s Tron Ares Isn’t Going To Be Like Anything Else Before

One of those promised changed movies by Disney Movies is Tron Ares. Tron was created by Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBrid, who saw potential in a young Jeff Bridges, whom they cast as Kevin Flynn. When a computer was the size of some people’s cars today, Disney told the story of a then-young Flynn, a genius computer programmer who is transported inside the digital world called The Grid, where computer programs live lives most like ours.

Its groundbreaking visual effects of the time and imaginary inventive story were a massive success. Hoping for another massive hit, Disney released a sequel in 2010 called Tron Legacy. The movie follows the life of Kevin’s son Sam, now 28 years after the events of the first film. Sam sets off across The Grid to save his father from a corrupt program and his tyrannical rule.

One thing that Disney knocked out of the park with Tron Legacy was its soundtrack. With the pressure to make the next installment live up to the standard of making the Tron threequel great, Disney has Nine Inch Nails composing the score.

Along with the music, Tron Ares is providing a cast to fit a successful script. Starting out with the return of Jeff Bridgers, his co-stars will be Greta Lee, Evan Perers, and Jared Leto. Each offered some insight into their characters during the D23 announcements.

Those who are familiar with Tron know the name Dillinger. Evan will play Julian Dillinger. Greta has announced that she will play a human character named Lee Kim. Kim is a brilliant programmer.

Here Is The Twist That Makes The Difference

Here is where Tron Ares takes things to the next level. Greta may have said too much when she admitted that her character Kim was responsible for programs from Ares to come into our world. That makes the outline for the possibilities Tron Ares holds for The Grid mechanics in the real world endless.

That wasn’t the biggest bomb drop as the former Academy Award winner, Mr. Leto, will play Ares, who is Master Control of the Dillinger Grid. He isn’t human, but a program comes to the real world to shape it the way we would a computer program.

Disney is shifting the Tron reality from the digital into our cities, homes, and jobs. Light Cycles, Recognizers, Solar Sailer, Tanks, and more could be seen rolling, speeding down our streets, led by a program that doesn’t eat, sleep, or rest but only wants to rule. That sounds great to me. Tron Ares has a tentative release date of mid-October.
