An impulsive teenager discovers secret magical abilities that hurl her out of suburbia and into Hexe, a vast realm of witches. Forced to team up with her cautious mother, the pair must navigate a spectacle-filled journey to uncover long-buried family mysteries that could change the world of magic forever.
The Disney movie “Hexed” follows Billie Doe, an unconventional teenage girl who discovers magical powers and is swept into a hidden witch realm called Hexe. Like the 2022 Pixar film “Turning Red,” “Hexed” combines coming-of-age themes with a magical adventure focused on a teenage girl trying to find herself. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 25, 2026 and here is what we know so far.
Bowers’ Approach To The Hexed Movie Score
Academy Award-winning composer Kris Bowers is writing the original “Hexed” movie score for Disney’s upcoming animated feature, according to Variety. Bowers said his work on the score centered on experimenting with unconventional ways to make music using air, a concept tied to the film‘s themes of flight and transformation.
“Creating the score for ‘Hexed’ was all about exploration and experimentation. Inspired by a young woman who dreams of flying, both literally and metaphorically, I began exploring unusual ways of making music with air: bird call whistles, wind wand, nose flutes, bottles, kazoos, air sirens and even recordings of actual birds transformed into instruments,” Bowers said, according to Variety.
That experimentation shaped a score that mixes traditional orchestration with electronic and natural sound design. Bowers said the result blends orchestra, an effected chamber woodwind ensemble, synths and natural sound elements, often blurring the line between acoustic and electronic textures.
A Mother-Daughter Story At The Score’s Core
Bowers framed the music around the emotional relationship driving the film’s plot. “At its core, this is a deeply emotional mother-daughter journey and I wanted the music to capture both that intimacy and the wonder and adventure of this world,” he said, according to Variety.
He also credited his collaborators on the project. “I’m so grateful for the incredibly engaging collaboration with Fawn, Jason, Jared and the entire Disney Animation filmmaking team,” Bowers said.
What’s Next For The Disney Movie Hexed
Trailer footage released by Disney shows Billie Doe, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, grappling with newfound magical abilities while trying to hide them from her mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones. However, her mother discovers her in the magical world of Hexe and warns that it is not a safe place for them. Jodie Foster voices the Queen of the Witches, who appears to serve as the film’s main villain.
Coverage from Fiction Horizon provided additional details from Disney’s latest “Hexed” posters, including an Italian poster advertising a Nov. 26 release date in Italy. The artwork features Billie against a giant crescent moon, while both posters depict the protagonist alongside an owl-like creature, a cauldron and a green three-eyed cat. The three-eyed cat has been revealed as Beef Roger Crummchuk, voiced by Walton Goggins. The supporting cast also includes Tracey Ullman as the enchanted feather pen Ms. Quill and Stephen Fry as Elias Quire. Other announced cast members include Brett Gelman, Yvette Nicole Brown, Rachel Dratch and Ariana Madix.
The film is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Josie Trinidad serving as co-director. Veerasunthorn previously co-directed Disney’s 2023 animated feature “Wish,” while Hand’s credits include “Moana 2.” Trinidad has worked on several Disney productions, including “Zootopia” and “Wreck-It Ralph.” The screenplay was written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. No official runtime has been released as of this time.
