Disney Leads 2025 Box Office, Can They Hold Off Warner Bros. In Back Half Of The Year?

Disney dominating the 2025 box office

Disney is leading the 2025 box office as we hit the halfway point of the year. Despite some box office bombs, the company has still pulled in $1.1 billion this year in the United States. Close behind them is Warner Bros. Studios, which has also seen great numbers at the box office. As we head into the second half of 2025, can the House of Mouse keep their lead and hold off their competitors?

Disney has been led at the box office by the Lilo and Stitch live-action remake ($371.7 million) and Captain America: Brave New World ($200.5 million). Thunderbolts racked up 188.9 million, and even Snow White pulled down $87.2 million despite being labeled as a box office bust. Warner Bros. is not far behind. They have already pulled in $906.9 million, with $423.8 million coming from A Minecraft Movie. Sinners has also boosted the 2025 box office numbers for the studio. Both studios have some blockbuster hits coming in the second half of the year.

For Warner Bros. F1 and James Gunn’s Superman have high expectations and should push the studio over the one billion mark before Labor Day. In October, the highly anticipated sequel, Mortal Kombat II, is set to garner big numbers at the box office. Disney has plenty of potential hits coming as well. Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming next month with Tron: Ares, Zootopia 2, and Avatar: Fire and Ash rounding out the year. These studios have not been the only ones to see successful box office numbers. The growth from last year has been positive for a lot of studios.

2024 Vs. 2025

Disney is a whopping +222% over 2024. Their lackluster year was salvaged with Inside Out 2 , Deadpool and Wolverine. Warner Bros. is +29% year to date, with three other studios posting gains so far this year. Paramount is at +5% over last year, and A24 is sitting at +13%. The faith-based Angel Studios is up 232%, though most of their gains have come from the Easter animated movie, King of Kings. It is a positive sign for the box office, though not every studio is seeing the same success.

Sony is down 55% on the year, with Lionsgate and Amazon MGM Studios also seeing dips from last year. Universal is hoping for a second-half-of-the-year surge as well, with Jurassic World: Rebirth slated to hit theaters soon. Moviegoers will have plenty to choose from this summer and around the holidays.

Final Thoughts

Disney is looking to dominate the box office once again. Given the number of hits they have coming down the stretch, it almost seems inevitable that they will take the box office crown in 2025. However, Warner Bros. has to be pleased with how their movies have performed. Superman is a big test of how their comic book division can perform in the long run. It’s going to be a fun second half of the year for moviegoers!
