Discovery+ raised its subscription prices starting Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, with new subscribers paying the higher rates immediately, according to Variety. The Discovery+ price increase affects both the ad-supported and ad-free plans, marking the service’s first price hike since January 2025, The Verge reported.
The Details: New Prices And Effective Dates
The ad-supported Discovery+ plan rose from $5.99 a month to $6.99 a month, according to Variety and The Verge. The ad-free plan increased from $9.99 a month to $11.99 a month, the outlets reported.
New subscribers who sign up on or after Oct. 13, 2026, are charged the higher prices right away, Variety reported. Existing subscribers get more breathing room. They will receive 30 days of advance notice before the new rates appear on their billing statements, with updated charges starting on or after Nov. 12, 2026, according to Variety.
What It Means For Fans And Customers
Anyone already paying for Discovery+ will keep their current price for about a month after the increase was announced, giving subscribers time to decide whether to keep the service, switch plans or cancel before the new billing cycle hits. New customers signing up now will pay $6.99 for the ad-supported tier or $11.99 for ad-free from day one.
Context: A Merger Reshapes Ownership
The price increase lands one week after Paramount closed its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery to form Skydance, according to Variety and The Verge. Discovery+ is now owned by Skydance as a result of that deal. The price hike was likely planned before the merger closed, Variety reported.
The last time Discovery+ raised prices was January 2025, The Verge reported, making this the service’s first increase under its new ownership structure.
What’s Next
Existing Discovery+ subscribers should watch their billing statements starting on or after Nov. 12, 2026, when the updated prices take effect following the required 30-day notice period. New subscribers are already paying the higher $6.99 and $11.99 rates as of Oct. 13, 2026. The combined Skydance company also plans to merge Paramount+ and HBO Max into a single service over time, though Discovery+ will remain separate for now, according to Deadline.
